Cosmic rubbish!

A star does not need fancy names la.

Actually, it was the headlines of the news stories that made me a little upset about the Jalan Alor re-naming fiasco. The Star today on its front page had this headline...

We'll listen to all sides on Jalan Alor......

This was the response of the Federal Territory minister to protests on the decision to rename the globally famous Malaysian street. City Hall changed all the road signs from Jalan Alor to Jalan Kejora last week.

Listen to all sides? What do you mean listen to ALL sides? Why is it that when Y.B.'s (titled officers) fuck up WE, the rakyat (citizens) are asked to explain why we are pissed off? Shouldn't the mayor of Kuala Lumpur, the datuk bandar be strung up by the balls and asked to scream out his explanation on why he wasted public funds and public servants' efforts in this useless exercise? Well? We are waiting. What? Want to know why we are pissed off first ah? So the YB can have some time to manufacture some answers or arrange for a quick lawat sambil belajar (study trip) trip to Taiwan issit? Wait ah...don't get too angry yet people. There is more. Here is the other headline of the story in The Star...

New name to signify cosmic change in Bukit Bintang......

Cosmic change in Bukit Bintang? The only change I've noticed in the area recently is perhaps its resemblance to a mythical massage and reflexology capital of an imaginary country somewhere in a truly Asian setting.

The datuk bandar admitted that the name change had been in planning for 3 years as part of DBKL's (City Hall's) efforts to rename roads in the Bukit Bintang area after planets of the solar system!!! Bukit Bintang is Malay for Star Hill you see. And so they spent 3 years planning this crazy, useless exercise while ...... garbage in KL streets remain uncollected....... Pot holes in KL roads continue to crack vehicle axles...... crime rates rise to a level where even policemen and the home minister are scared...... Don't the DBKL people have better things to occupy their time? If they don't other than with things like this perhaps it is about time we get rid of the whole team altogether. Nothing to do what. So waffor?

It's things like this that makes Malaysians damn "too lan" (fed-up) la.

Niamah!!!

oh patrick,

more for you. lawatn sambil belajar cost the taxpayer more than RM1.0 million. All they learn is to change a famous street to fuck, jalan kejora which nobody wants.
Typical idiotic mentality from city hall. patrick, when can we get rid of these idiots from ruining our lifes?
instant cafe theater should have a real good show on CITY HALL and its STUPIDITIES?

CANNOTTTT.. afterwards all the ICT team kena masuk ISA pulak.. then how?? Then no more people to do funny shit about 'funny' people anymore.. haih..You know lah, these dumbos all like to throw ppl in the slammer with ISA at the slightest whim, these days! I think these past few months, there had been more ISA detentions than the last 10 years, dammit.

Jalan Kejora (wtf does that mean anyway).. sounds like a stupid clown (or Malaysian car) name. Another example of the high level of brainpower in our government and local councils..

I am really upset with this change. It is like having your name since you were born and then suddenly you have to change your name in order to be in the same theme as everyone else in your class/ team etc.

I think the government is really stupid by provoking us like this, esp. since their poor showing in the last election. You'd think that they would spend their time doing things that really matter to us to try to patch things up.

Stupid!

Very soon they may even decide to change Kuala Lumpur, "Mud tributary". In the mud, how to reach the STARS...

Cosmo city in the mud, WTF is all these "idoit" doing to this country. One minute, change post code next minutes change name. If they fail to be properous, they may even change their Sirname or father's name to something else...........

Isn't it great what out tax money is spent on? Paying the hefty salaries of these so-called councilmen and community leaders who waste time and resources on stupid things like changing names. Like magic or what, change name and *POOF!* all the garbage and rodents will disappear.
Kejora is some constelation or star or something (another useless creation from our friends at DBP who prolly spend their days (and gov't salaries) thinking up new words... ironic that you can probably get a halfwit to come up with words like "atlet" for athlete but can be creative enough to use "canggih" (altho in the end we still see "sofistikated",as well as other gems like "bajet" "unik" and "fesyen" at the end of the day.
The three years were spent reading books for the first time in ther lives since their government-subsidized education, seeking appropriate names that will impress people. Cos that's what Malaysians are, especially when they're high up the chain of power.
All about face, all about that pretentious front put up just to impress their foreign counterparts.
Then again, Malaysians are an ostentatious lot. Think of those stereotypical ads and tv dramas where it's all about showing off cos they swear by the rule "biar papa asalkan bergaya).
Or in this case - kita tak tau camne nak selesaikan masalah ekonomi, masalah social, kebersihan dan sebagainye - tapi apa hikmahnya nama baru ni? BUkan macam sampah sarap yang busuk dan bersepah kat tempat ni tetiba hilang bile name dah tukar.
Wei, we're already paying too much tax to support lifestyles of the so-called blue-bloods and publicly elected community representatives.

Worth it?

Doesn't matter, you ain't got no ahcnce. We're all agaist racial potics and apathy. And those who don't - will face a crapload of a pencil-pushing bureocracy running at the speed of total and utter slow-motion-ness

Three months for a damn name?
Who's going to spare all the money earned by these guys (imagine three months of pointless salaries> We do.

Next time try something that acually works and won't waste any more tax payer's money than we already do with this rubbish. Like do your job. You need proper cleaning services instead of a name that sounds like it belongs to some lapuk, PVC-clad, rambut gerbang 80's frust jiwang rock kapak band. Pathetic. Just as pointless as that ridiculous waste of money called Eye on Malaysia.

Is there no real work to do in KL? No problems, no trash, no infrastructure problems? Flash floods? Not-so-smart tunnel? Constant construction and bad planning (esp in Bukit Bintang - build la all the malls for your Middle East tourists to spend their dinars, but no thought on traffic and parking woes).

We're such a half-baked country sometimes I'm just embarassed to admit my citizenship. Nak kata maju, mentality not even tahap third world. Nak kata majmuk, politics is still race-based.

And our politicians in the meantime are wasting ink in our papers with their bickering and "my balls are bigger than yours" arguments. Get to work lah, losers. We didn't pay tax to support a bunch of squabblers. While you argue (or sleep through the parliament, as usual) - the country is still not progressing. Except in impatience and disgust. Esp the minister who closed the police station cos it was unsafe for the police. So the police's role is to do what? Oh ya, give directions to tourists. NOt maintain safety. Eeeeeh. Menyampah.
Patrick u rock.

Head spinning again.....Was it a spin off from the angkasawan / spacewalker program? Appoint our beloved Dr Sheikh Muzaffar the ambassador of the street la....His main job would be to explain the meaning of kejora to every passer by......Nice job huh!!!

Kuala Lumpur will soon change name to Kuala Rempit...to signify the rempits running around crazy..and this rempit menace will be promoted all over the world to attract tourists.

Lumpur is Mud..surely we cannot have a city call Mud.

Revert Jalan Alor to its old name..If DBKL really needs to use the world Kejora, they can rename Kuala Lumpur to Kuala Kejora..or maybe Kuala Shah Rukh Khan..??

Really f3cked up YB we have. Really nothing to do..go wank yourself silly..NIAMAH CCB

If you keep on reading the government reasons for many things done out of stupidity and showing off....saying..they can do as they like....you may vomit blood.
Furthermore...around that area are voters..against the government..so no consultations needed.
They want to show those residents......who is the boss.
Cannot imagine.....such a famous street name...changed based on their whims and fancies.

You are perfectly right these damn as*holes have nothing better to do...only spending over a million dollars of taxpayers' money making overseas tours. Perhaps, this brilliant idea came about after visiting too many 'pink houses' where names of the galaxy world are highlighted.
Try to appreciate their fine effort, at least, they would like us to think, they are a hard working bunch of morons.

Take a good look at Jalan Alor and the kind of businesses which operates along this famous road. Notice that majority of the businesses are eateries and operated by a certain ethnic group.

Changes of road names have been going on for a bit now even in other states. Mostly roads with colonial names or names of certain ethnic groups are replaced. Strangely, this time a localized name is targeted for change... coincidence?

Sorry la Patrick!!! so many mediocre running the nation. They only know to travel overseas for free, spent rakyat money and play golf at the best golf courses for free sponsored by contractors and sleep. Brain never use but like to abuse power.
That is the trademarks of our civil servants especially those at the top and wonder how they reach that position. Let me tell you also that FT minister is of the same kind la....

those goons just wanted to remove any resemblance that remains from the colonial days, any english sounding names and etc.
those flers didn't realise that UMNO is an English acronym concocted back in the colonial days, correct me if i'm wrong.
why do they still stick to that name, sentiments, proudness or what???
why dont they start 'REBRANDING UMNO' since they are so adverse to anything english, more so now that they are on the brink of being dump.

Wow! it doesn't take much to set one off doesn't it.. I suppose it's the sign of the times.. Even road name issue (or non-issue) can get on one's nerve, and summore can make one dig up all related (or unrelated issues (or non-issues (as the case may be))). See, even when we think aloud these days we have to qualify ourselves (just in case the ISA- enforcers or litigation-happy people think of punishing oneself for libel and or defamation).

Or as one would say- Ni*am**!

Dear Mr Teoh,

Suddenly everybody from the government to Bandaraya is attempting to show their power and not listen to the people.

They like to assume that the rakyat is incapable to think what's wrong or right. Only these idiots up there can decide for the rakyat.

And they can only come up with stupid ideas which infuriates the people.

vincenthue said...

If they don't come out with stupid ideas like these, the crony contractors will not have projects to do.. How can? So must think of stupid ways to create projects for their cronies.

Changing road sign is excellent way. Projects to do, money to go around, all the cronies are happy. Times are bad. Must be innovative. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Vernette said...

Changing road signs is a big project. A project will need bidding, funding and paying... don't you see why? The minute they come up with this bright idea, they start to get fat. How much do you think a hammer could be sold for to DBKL?

Collecting rubbish? It is already a routine, unless they can come up with something like "changing all the DBKL dump trucks in to new models so that collecting rubbish can be more efficient" crap, or collecting rubbish will not be a priority. The same goes to cleaning the streets, fixing the roads, fighting crime rates... I'd better not give them any ideas...

I have always been puzzled why Jalan Bulan. And now Jln Kejora. Kuala Lumpur (mud) also not nice so we must change the name to .... Also, did DBKL really listen to everybody? I cannot recall anyone from Jalan Alor agreeing to the name change. It's really funny that when no one in Jalan Alor is consulted on name change, someone claimed they listened to all sides.

somboon cheanswaths said...

Maybe City Hall's move was just to make it easier to write Kejora in Mandarin when putting up the street sign later. My Mandarin not so good, maybe KE-JO-LA easier to render in Mandarin than AH-LOR. More senior citizens would surely like to remember Jalan Alor and its twin Jalan Hicks as the "RM35 two-way" introduction to KL After Dark of the '80s.

On another note, wonder why no aspiring politician is asking that daughter of not just one, but two "pendatangs" to balik negeri yet. You know that Nicole David girl. Surely this daughter/grand daughter of "pendatangs" should also be asked to "balik negeri" what, not offered more Datukships, especially if one aspiring politician in Penang has his way.

When people fail to perform, they start to put more emphasis on form over substance. That's what is happening to DBKL...making cosmetic changes to cover up for their lack of efficiency in dealing with the manyproblems of the rakyat.

i don't see any necessity of changing the roads name. what more if that was made a big agenda rather than public transport's efficiency.

So so unnecessary.

Why not name Jalan Alor after the mayor?

That's a 1 Million Ringgit (of Tax Payer's money) question.

By teh way, what is the priority of a Datuk Bandar?

Bobby said...

Patrick, just about to blog on the road name change too.
See my blog about KL mayor spending RM1.5 million of taxpayers money on himself.

Changing the name is just a diversion away from the fuck-up solar parking receipt machines project. Read it in the papers sometime back that the crony get paid by the number of parking bays and not by the collections. So, even if DBKL do not get any payment, crony still get paid! And to cover for the exorbitant charges, DBKL has to impose parking charges til 10 pm.
This is the meat, not Jalan Alor!!!!

Anonymous said...

Patrick,

The City Mayor should be asked to change his son name. See how he feels.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the Arabs don't like the word Alor......... and KL seems to be catering to the Arabs more than anyone else!

Maybe there will be an angkasawan programme to all the planets so Malaysia can say "been there, done that". Changing the street names will be a way for people to learn the Bahasa names of the planets!

So what it took those City Hall fathers three years to land down on earth to decide on a name change - must be following the government's strategy to put BolehLand into the age of science and technology - a name change will denote we are a nation of scientists!
So it would be keeping to the City Hall fathers' experiences to give it a 'Venus' branding now - in sharing alike with the adventures of Anias Nin's 'Delta of Venus'. These City Hall fathers may have enjoyed (whether in their youth or recently perhaps... 3 years of experiences?) those starlets abound in Jalan Alor to change it to be called 'Venus Road' which has nothing related to space or science actually!
.. see rest 'Delta of Kejora (Venus) in www.jonathan66-my.blogspot.com

Dear Mr Teoh

All this nonsense will keep on happening as long as the people of KL are not allowed to directly ELECT the Mayor of KL.

As such, the Mayor is not directly accountable to the people of KL but to his boss(es).

If the mayor is an elected official, I am sure such nonsensical behaviour will NOT be TOLERATED by the good people of KL.

As a resident of KL, I want the re-instatement of local council elections. That is the only way to curb, if not stop, all such unproductive 'schemes' in the future.

Sincerely,
Johnny B. Rempit

I agree with what Vernette said - changing road signs is a big money making project to fill up the pockets of the fat asses. Think carefully, why would the same dickheads keep changing the parking system, dig a hole on the road, patch up and dig again within a short period, planting & chopping trees every now and then? Why? These dickheads' bank accounts should be investigated. If proven they're not corrupted, they should be fired as well for being inefficient and wasting the hard earned money of the public....they're too "bodoh" to take the responsibilities. Same goes for MBPJ....
