Everything is falling down, falling down falling down...

Somebody's going to face some music for this la.
(photos taken from The Star June 03, 2009)
Yes, and we are all eager to know who it is going to be.

The roof of the RM300million Stadium Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin in Terengganu collapsed yesterday. Fortunately, nobody was killed or injured. Thank God for that. The stadium was barely a year old.

"Contractor to face music if negligence involved, says DPM"

Wah! DPM upset you know. Contractor to face music man! How about that?

Hello, this is not a clogged drain but the whole roof of a stadium collapsing. And some more the state of our ruling Yang Dipertuan Agung. And somebody is going to face the music. I think a little stronger language is needed here. I am hoping that the DPM didn't actually say that but that it was just some sub-editor's dry sense of humour.

And then the Menteri Besar of Terengganu was quoted as saying, "We are eager to know the cause of such massive destruction".

Eager to know? What's this results of Akademi Fantasia ah? Eager to know? What does that tell us? WE ARE DAMNED ANGRY! WE WANT ANSWERS! WE WILL GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS! HEADS WILL ROLL! Any one of those also can use isn't it? Eager to know wor. What la!

But actually quite laughable la the way things happen here hor?

Niamah!!!

Roofs leaked in Parliament House & roof collapsed in Tr. stadium.

Nothing serious, nobody hurt. Only finger pointing & after a while, everybody forgets....

In Tr. Stadium, RM292 million was spent and over 400 days late & who cares.

This one is just unlucky that the roof suddenly collapsed, otherwise the file would have gone quietly to Arkib Negara & tidur there.

This is what they term as 'collusion'. You gahar my back, I gahar yours.

Make a lot of noise, they'll mark you for transit to room # 15-A, Kemunting Resort. Kah kah kah..

Contractor? Not the one who give the contract? The latest is that it is the main con, Tengku Bahrain. Am sure DPM now have different thoughts on who is at fault.

Yeah, yeah. Build for RM250 million because of "increased cost of building materials etc".
Not even ONE BLOODY YEAR!
Even my garden shed still standing after one year and it cost RM250!

Ha Ha Ha
Malaysia really BOLEH!!!
Such thing also can happen?

Typical malaysian project stats:-

cost of Stadium - 280 Million
Umno cronies makan 100 Million
a few more million here & there for middlemen, introducer, lawatan-sambil belajar to study about stadiums, perempuan, makan minum, etc;

100 Million for stadium.

This is Malaysia, now.

How?

Samee will say: Human beings constructed the stadium. God did not construct it. So what you expect when human beings construct it.

Too bad Samee cannot cooment on this building now. Was Samee involved in this negotiated contract when he was still a Minister?

Did you say the liar was eager to know the cause of such massive destruction?

This guy already knew that the roof was warping and that PWD had not given the approval for the fitness of the stadium and yet he chose to risk the lives of many to hold Sukma games there last year.

Well Bro,

I am so happy that they are not blaming God this time. At least, ada pembaharuan la sikit.

after some time, people will forget about this...we have very short memory...and the government knows this very well...they will drag the issue for some time and all will be well...no one will remember it anymore...

Another one bite the dust but no prosecution here....Thats is malaysia boleh...hehehehe.

I think the answer lies in the cost of the building. If someone can get their hands on what the bill was and compare it to the actual sum paid to the contractor, you will find your answer. A song from Abba will be mostly appropriate.

HAVE SAFE CONSTRUCTION TO SAVE NEED FOR RECONSTRUCTION

When we don't have proper construction
We'll have to face eventual physical destruction
That will bring about plenty of frustration
With the need for expensive reconstruction

First of all I thank god,as there werent any human casuality.

I dare that 'pengkhianat melayu'fella write an article on this disaster and expose all wrong doers, instead of writing rubbish and put the country backward.

Certainly the coward will not dare,if he does he will become Awang 'ta'Selamat. This disaster is no small matter, its a national shame, smacks of corruption and cronyism. The price the ordinary rakyat are paying for enriching Umno/BN Ali Babas.

Najib,your '1Malaysia,people first,performance now'hopefully is not a mere anecdote and no substance.

Malaysian engineering consultants often have hugh safety factors (2 to 3x)in their calculations not because they are "Kia See" but to counter any cutting of corners by most contractors as works are constructed and supervised by third parties.

This particular consultant may have designed to just the normal safety limit not knowing Malaysian's "construction site" condition.

The stadium architecture is a new generation of architectural style called 'techorganic 'or 'high tech style in organic form.' It is a very defficult style to handle. Because only architect with strong knowledge of long span steel roof structure engineering especially, like Renzo Piano, Santiago Calatrava and Kusio Kurikawa can handle it.

What I want to say is that the architect who want to try out the style is the one who is able to come out with his own long span steel roof structural concept plus the required joint details. In other words, if the architect has to depend on their team structural engineer's advice for such concept etc he can forget with the style.

Topaz said...

In other words, RM292,899,941.68 has been spent to try out the architect's design even without the engineers' thorough knowledge of the concept.

Or as they say, "If the soup is not good, just throw it away." Who cares.

Another niamah issue. I remember not too long ago some computer lab roof also collapsed. The engineers must have based their calculations on attap roofs. My attap roof on my shed is still intact after so may yaers.
The irony is that some time ago our authority wanted to demolish an old school in KL, that stood the test if time for 100 years and replace them with building that cannot even last 1 year.
