If you fail Math/Science in English, you can work as a journalist.

On page N36 of the street version The Star today there is a photo of some members of the Ipoh City Council staff waving little Malaysian flags. Nothing wrong with that I guess. After all it is that silly period of 'forced' patriotism we go through each year. What got me were the caption and the story headline.

Ipoh City Council staf members waving the Jalur Gemilang which was given to them yesterday. They were asked to fix the flag on their vehicles.
(highlights are all mine)

How does that photo caption translate into this story headline?

Patriotic spirit flying high in Ipoh

And if you're not shaking your head by now there's more vomit-inducing stuff inside the story.

Apparently, the Ipoh mayor has directed his staff to fly the flag on their vehicles. The Ipoh city council owns 1,000 vehicles. The mayor, Roshidi also admitted that he'd signed a directive addressed to all 220,000 business premises under the council's purview to fly the flag on their premises. In other words, "You WILL be patriotic, you hear me!!!"

And then, this is really funny. Roshidi said that flying the flag will help boost the people's morale and love for the country and will thus inspire them to work harder and contribute more to the nation. This Ipoh fler thinks we're all 3 years old issit?

Hahahaha...then 'on a separate matter' Roshidi announced that he had selected 10 different mosques and surau in the city to hold his usual "turun padang" (go to the ground) programmes. He said he was doing this for two 'things' - the spirit of Ramadan and also Merdeka. Errr...Roshidi I think if you'd chucked in a couple of temples and churches in there you might have hit the target.

Ladies and gentlemen, the award for Government Bureaucrat Most Unclear Of The Concept goes to Roshidi Hashim, mayor of Ipoh.

NIAMAH!!!

I love my country but I do not need to 'demonstrate' it by flying the flag.

Unless the children of God ask for divine intervention, this country is heading down a slippery path.

With all the bru-ha-ha about macc & councillors spendings, it would be nice to know which company got the contract to supply those cute little flags and for how much.

U wait la... in a next few days, the star will feature many more 'patriotic' flers with flags all over their taxis, rickshaws, costumes, warung kopis, etc.. you name it la... when will people learn that patriotism is not by showing people how many flags you fly. fecking idiots!!!

My goodness gracious ! Let me tell you this, Datuk Bandar !!!

If a person is patriotic, he or she will automatically purchase our national flag on his or her own. No need to give, only then be patriotic !!!

Yesterday was 20.08.09 and 31 st is not far away. If a person is patriotic he or she should start putting up flags since 01.01.09 and not wait until yesterday.

See ! Cakap, 1Malaysia, turun padang pun ada pilih kasih ! Poraah ! Pergi lah ! Chow lah ! This is 1Malaysia language lah !

I remebered our teacher Mr Soh used to scold us - moron, stupid ass ,You all are far too intelligent.

We used to reply in Cantonese/japanese version.

Uncle Pat,

Why you "ultra vires" the Ipoh mayor like this ah?? He is just trying to be patriotic and you make fun of him. Don't be bad lah. It's not his fault that he had this sudden desire to fly the flag ....err by the way, how much did the flags cost? If it's RM2,400, he will soon be shitting in his pants because he or his political aide could be hauled up by the MACC ala TBH case. If the flags cost RM2,400,000 then it's OK because the MACC is interested only in possible corruption cases for flags purchases at RM2,400 and below.

OMG, how did he ends up as the Ipoh mayor in the first place ? Maybe we all should buy the flag and fly it at homes, offices, factories etc and that may contribute something to the economy. But that would be insignificant as we need real investors but first our law must be in order. Rule of law and not rule by law which is the case in Perak.

At least this ia an honest papers. btw, this is no longer Perak, it is upside-down now, the P has to be b... so is the mayor in berak, what do you expect. Sorry la...

Guess who is going to pay for the flags. Money making scheme for some cronies. So Perakian, better don't waste your own money and fly the flag. Every year is the same story. I am still waiting for the patriotic minister to decree that all household must have a Bunga Raya (National Flower, mah!).Can! why cannot, every year (CNY) most Chinese home have Lime Tree Mah!. Patriots of the Nation will not bleed it dry by corruption and mismanagement.

I am only a government servantlah. My boss ordered me to come out with such statement and tomorrow it is his turnlah. You can call me a ball carrier, an idiot or whatever you like but brother, please I am your obedient servant. I will persuade my boss to allow flag to be planted under the democratic tree in Ipoh. It would be more meaningful.

With the gun pointed at his head, a question was asked, do you love me? Dangling outside the window on the 15th floor, did you not say this? Notice of being demoted or transferred, fly the flag.........wake up. This is a matured nation is it not? Dont treat people like small kids.

Latest news fr ourbeloved former PM, Tun Dr M. Chinese newspaper should also published in Malay language. Greatest idea from one of our greates PM, if not the greatest. Father of modern Malaysia. Our leader even after retirement.

Now the education ministry only understand how important to teach everything in Malay language. latest in the pipeline is to teach english language in Malay. That way, the malays would not compromise on their mother tongue and no english speaking country can take advantage of us. We must protect malay rights to be taught in mother tongue. we must never forget that it was the english speaking country that colonised us and force us to speak their language. Now when we speak our mother tongue, malay, they will not understand us andwhen we speaka our english, they also will not the comprehenda us. That way we can negotiate better and have the advantage. yes, Science,Maths and English also must be taught in Malay. Malay can. Just to show the world we are fair, we (politicians and rich malaysians) will continue to send our children overseas to learn about others and their language. We are fair, we dont force all to study in malay language. It is part andparcel of our demokratic process.

"why is the girl showing her finger?"

Ya ya..., I enlarged the photo n it sure is showing the SYT was giving her "MIDDLE FINGER SALUTE" lah..., prob'ly to whoever forced her & her coliqs to do this crappy "public display" of patriotism, heheh...

Then why the hell did MACC "interrogate" Teoh bcoz somebody gave RM2400 worth of flags to PR for patriotic display in this coming Merdeka celebration?

Why didn't MACC investigate the Ipoh mayor's secretary where he got the funds for the flag, pulled him by his belt n dangled him at the window of Tingkat-14 of Plaza Masalam?

Dew NIAMAAAH...!!!

It is a waste of productivity and public fund.

"why is the girl showing her finger?" My guess is that she saw something in the sky. A minister was flying from KL to Ipoh. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPER........He have solved the mystery of gangsters link in Selangor, cos ...
In the latest update on the NST online paper Minister in the PM's department, Nazri Aziz said, "A Molotov cocktail thrown at a vehicle belonging to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) branch here this morning supports the claims that certain Selangor representatives are linked to the underworld."
Now this superman is flying to Ipoh to see Ghandhi Mandela and the corrupted frogs. But why she use her middle finger. Easy mah. That what she think of him.

To Anon 11.28AM, I like your perspective. They will try to cook steak malaysian style next or protonise the Jaguars and Rolls Royces. Actually if Tun were to use his influence to grant the Chinese Papers a permit to print in Bahasa, I am quite sure they will take it up.

If UMNO sincerely ask for chinesepapers to be published in Malay for Malays readers, then I think your suggestion makes a lot of sense, but NAY...!!! What this racist Umnoputras really want is to turn the Chinese papers into half-Chinese-half-Malay papers, i.e. every news in Chinese with a Malay translation, line-by-line or section-by-section, kinda craps…

The Chinesepapers maybe SCREWED Big Time...
