Fantastic Facts and Fancies

What's My name???

Just read a couple of fantastic facts and funnies this morning.

1. Who is this TUHAN referred to in our national anthem NegaraKu? Many "learned" Malaysians, including Mahathir Mohd., insist that Tuhan refers to the Christian God. So how now? The poor Muslim students at school assemblies all over the country will be so confused and traumatised.

2. The use of "Allah" IS allowed. The use of "Allah" is NOT allowed. I am wondering here, just WHO is doing all the "allowing" for using the name of God.

3. The Attorney-General says that in the case of the missing jet engines the most important thing now is to recover the engines. Eh? I thought that might be the 2nd most important thing. Didn't I read somewhere that these engines are old and out of date and that the jet fighters we have that use them are mostly already decommissioned anyway. So why are we so eager to spend more money(millions I am sure) to recover a pile of junk?

Isn't the most important thing to a) bring the thieves to justice and b) investigate the then air-force big shots, the then minister of defence etc under whose watch the "theft" occurred?

No ah? This is Malaysia issit? Oh sorry ah!

NIAMAH!!!

Oh oh oh...just saw this in The Star after I posted the rant....

Courts are not the avenue - "Allah" controversy cannot be resolved through the law, says Dr. M

So typical of how the old man does things and used to do things isn't it? Courts? Laws? WAFFOR? This man is good la.

Oh oh oh.........this is funny. In a tragic kind of way.

In the whole state of Terengganu there is no usable operating theatre!!! And we are spending time, effort and money arguing about God's name and trying to recover old jet engines. I think we should definitely spend some of our tax-payers money on sharpening the executioner's axe and waxing the head-chopping block.

NIAMAH!!!

I hope the operating theatres roof did not come down. Otherwise, we can call the state as Terengganu Darul Bumbung Runtuh. I think some people in the state JKR must be closing an eye in the various projects in Terengganu, or rather they have closed on eye and shut the other.

What do u expects.Melayu got the contracts, passed to maincon, then passed to chinaman subcon. At the end, profit only Kei Soi(chicken feed). Nothing good is cheap, nothing cheap is good.

As for the national anthem, law will be amended that mandate the muslims to sing "Allah kurniakan"
instead of "Tuhan kurniakan".

And as for the Kedah state anthem, the non muslims will not
sing the word "Allah" but "Tuhan".

I believe the Brigadier and senior
officers asked to leave the Air Force as they were the senior management of the org that lost the engines. It in not in the history or norm of RMAF to remove commisioned officers on the ground of incompetence.

Anonymous said...

God is God. Whats the deal abt who owns the copyright to that word. We've sung the national anthem for years, the word Tuhan means God, open to intepretation. Whatever the person has in mind for that word is it.
There are better things to do like maybe not letting something like a Jet Engine be stolen perhaps? On the superficial level, it makes the Country a laughingstock of the modern world, on the serious side, someone, somewhere just commited treason by stealing the engines.

Anonymous said...

Patrick,
some points to add:
1.Very simple la. Just change Tuhan to Allah in Negeraku lor!
2.Aiyah you want to know who?
Ask Najib. He is above the law.
3.The AG is correct you know. Most important is to get the engines back at all cost. One to make the international community, esp.USA happy and secondly to put the engines back at the place. No loss then case close!
Why you need operating theatres in Terengganu? People there are so healthy, never get serious illness and so dont need surgeries.I think they have many brain-scanners!
Have a good day friend....

The Kedah state anthem has 'Allah' in its lyrics.

Does that mean that non-Muslims should be exempted from singing this Kedah state anthem as we are not Muslim (or Christians, for the time being)?

BN is making things very complicated for citizens.

Police reports are used to intimidate people. These days they’re no longer tools for victims to seek protection or redress. This happens when aggressors think they have the Attorney General’s office on their side.

On Jan 1, MACC officers filed two separate police reports against Dr Porntip nd Suara Keadilan, the organ of PKR, which claimed, in an article, that the pathologist had confirmed that Teoh Beng Hock was murdered. (Malaysiakini)

Yesterday, Teoh’s family has applied for the MACC officers to be hauled up for criminal intimidation of an expert witness and for attempting to delay the course of justice.

I hope Dr Pornthip would take some action herself. She should NOT take this threat lightly. Or allow these bullies to go unchecked. If she were just doing her job, if she has her own conclusions based on her expert opinion, why must she be intimidated for that?

After Teoh, MACC doesn’t seem to have learned any lessons. Do they wish to lose another witness?

The joke is the three Abrahamic religions have the same person who will be the Judge, His name is the Messiah (Jews), Jesus (Christians) and Isa Al-Masihi (Moslems). When politics have become so rotten and corrupted beyond repair, this is what we get ... 1Malaysia.

These greedy people with vested interest to make their fat bank accounts even fatter, are now trying to be champions and fighters of religion. Just who are they to represent God? If one strongly believes in his religion, then just do his very own part to be a good and devoted follower. No need to be a kepoh what other followers of other religions are doing.

Btw, besides the Kedah State Anthem, Johor's has the word "Allah" too! And it goes like this, "Allah peliharakan Sultan ..."

Hmmm... i'm just wondering what other learned and established Muslims (not the Talibans of course) in other countries, especially the Middle East, think of the cartoons here in Malaysia!

Patrick,

Having no usable operating theatre in Terengganu is ok lah as long as Terenngganu has the Monsoon Cup, Crystal Mosque and the collapsed Stadium.

What is more important to the Terengganu BN government is to attract in "international tourists" to Terengganu to admire the Crystal Mosque and participate in the grand Monsoon Cup races because these activities help enrich the BN cronies. If any "Terengganuans" want to have an operation, they can hop over to Kelantan or Pahang or just drop dead in front of the Crystal Mosque. Problem solved QED.

Tengku Razaleigh suggested that the rejection of Umno and the Barisan Nasional (BN) communal politics model by large swathes of voters in Election 2008 had led the Malay nationalist party to pursue racial issues more stridently.

“They think this will shore up their ’base’. They are mistaken about the nature of that base. As they do so, they become more extreme and out of touch with ordinary voters of every race and religion whose major concerns are not racial or religious identity but matters such as corruption, security, the economy and education.”

This indian man called Pakiam is nuts.

Bible is the only document that validates Christianity as a religion. It is 2000 years old.
NOWHERE IN THE BIBLE YOU CAN FIND A VERSE THAT SAYS THAT GOD'S NAME IS ALLAH.

Then why is it that only recently does Pakiam and his colleagues decide to call his god ,ALLAH?

As far as I know , Pakiam is not a prophet. God didn't come to him and introduce himself as ALLAH

Pakiam must know that the early Bible is in the jewish language(hebrew). Then why is Pakiam adamant in using an arabic term (Allah) to describe a jewish god?

Pakiam is playing balls with the Muslims. And the Muslims know it. Pakiam must also know that the Muslims will never back off from a fight, especially if its about defending the sanctity of GOD.
The number of suicide attacks offshore clearly shows this.

Any court will stand by the Muslims in this fiasco. It is a clear cut case where the christianity is trying to rob the identity of their arch rival,Islam.

From a modern perspective, can we as Malaysians suddenly rename our country "The United States of America" because we think it's our right to do so? We can then of course print US dollars and dump them offshore.
What would the real Americans think? Would't it invite war?

The more I read the comments from both sides, the more I get confused. Is this a constitutional issue or language issue or religous issue or what ? I tend to agree that if in BM, God (for non muslims) is Tuhan. Perhaps the Bahasa Indonesia version which is Allah and which have been used for a very long time in Sabah and Sarawak should be corrected. But then how to correct as I understand that it is wrong to have a BM version of the Bible and that is why the people in Sabah and Sarawak use the Indon version. I am sure the christians can consider

Patrick Teoh,

By the way, I aggree with Tun that the court cannot resolve this matter.

Why?, Because this is a religious issue. To the Muslim, this is not a racial issue, it is also not a legal issue. We see this as a religious issue.

So the court have decided in favour to Herald. What does this means to the Muslims....Absolutely nothing.

As far as the Muslim concern, the court does not have the authority on Religious matters. This is no longer a legal issue as was perceived by Herald.

Muslim only abide a judgement issued by the National Religious Council or Fatwa Council. The council decision will carry more significant weight.

Nevertheless, there are those who might be antagonize by this issue and will act according to their sentiment. There are also those who want to take advantage of the current situation and make it more worst.

I've read that "Malaysia Kini" that Muslim should just accept the court judgment and move on. I think they do not aware full gravity of the situation.

This is a very highly sensitive issue for the Muslims and cannot be resolve through legal means.

There have to be a debate on this matter by both Religious parties so that a peaceful solution can be achieved.

Posted in Biblical Textual Criticism, Concept of God, Hermeneutics

There are five reasons why it is legitimate to use Allah among Christians.
They are as follows:
1. The loan word Allah is the Arabic equivalent of the Hebrew names of God El, Elohim, Eloah in the Hebrew Old Testament.
2. Arab Christians from before the dawn of Islam have been praying to Allah, and Allah was used by Christian theologians writing in Arabic. So the Christian usage of Allah is actually older than Islam.
3. Allah is the word used for “God” in all Arabic versions of the Bible from the old Arabic Bible all the way to the modern Arabic Bible (Today’s Arabic Version).
4. Christians in countries like Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, and other places in Asia and Africa where the languages are in contact with Arabic, have almost all been using the word Allah as the Creator God and the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ.
5. Last but not least, in Malay and Indonesian the word Allah has been used continuously from the time of the first printed edition of Matthew’s Gospel in Malay (A.C. Ruyl, 1629). It was used in the first complete Malay Bible (M. Leijdecker, 1733), and in the second complete Malay Bible (H.C Klinkert, 1879), and has been used in other published Scriptures up to the
present day.

Justice Lau is one of the very rare species.
Malaysia is making itself truly a laughing stock to the world. Those ill-informed Malays trying to claims exclusive right to the word "Allah" by Malaynised the word. What a joke!
Going by the old Mamak apa nama's logic, God is Tuhan to the Christian. Shouldn't then the Rukunegara and Negara-ku be change to Allah instead? If remain status quo, wouldn't the Muslims deemed as praying and singing to a Christian's God? Oh mamak miya.... How dreadful.
If GOD is known as Allah (in Arabic), Father in Heaven/God Almighty (in English), Tin-Sun (God in Heaven in Chinese) and Yahweh (in Hebrew)?
Who give the right to the Malays the exclusive rights to use of the Arabic language name for God Almighty, Allah? To the foolish Muslims Malays, why fight over God’s name and cause friction and enmity between peace loving Muslims and Christians? We are all praying to the same GOD in heaven.
Hope the touble-makers know under the these three Abrahamic religions i.e. Judaism, Christians, Muslims have the very same person who will be the Judge in the Judgement day? His name is the Messiah (Jews), Jesus (Christians) and Isa (Moslems). All these 3 Abrahamic religions recognized that it would be His Judgement that we will face one day.
