Fantastic Fact and Funny

Hello everybody! It's Monday and the start of another week here in Bolehland. On Mondays I usually try and look for something funny to share with all of you. I don't usually succeed and sink back into normal Niamah!!! mode rather quickly but today I think I might have a good one for you. I think la. You decide.

As citizens of this Bolehland, corruption has been the bane of our lives for decades. Year in, year out, administration in, administration out the usual noises are made about eradicating corruption. In our civil service, local councils, police...just about everywhere la. Of course nothing very much different is achieved. And life goes on in Bolehland with most of us just shrugging while uttering a tired, "Hiyah! Like that one la here. Never change one la."

And some of us wonder and keep wondering why that is the case. We had an Anti Corruption Agency (ACA) which morphed into the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) but we still read about and experience corruption at every level. Why ah?

Well, today as I was driving to a bank in TTDI I spotted this billboard put up by DBKL on which might lie the answer to why corruption will always be part of Malaysian life. If you don't understand Malay ask a friend to translate for you. If you're not Malaysian then you probably won't get it anyway. So don't bother and surf somewhere else la.

Okay. Ready?

Orang memberi
Kita merasa.

Get it?
Oh never mind.

Hello Patrick.

That peribahasa was never meant to promote corruptions. Its to promote kindness and civility. The first two phrases has already indicate the need for high ethical standard.

I concur with you the need to fight corruptions and eliminate it from the public offices. But to insinuate that peribahasa as a promotion of corruptions is just overboard.

Bulleye! That's should be DBKL unofficial party line^^

The message is to legalise corruption, the Bolehland-way.

"When you give rasuah, the recipient must feel that it is a win-win situation."

No wonder our nation is going down the drain.

Patrick,
My 2 sen worth on this. If I'm not mistaken the billboard by DBKL is a overkill version of a "pantun kilat". In a normal "pantun" you have 4 lines where the first 2 lines are called "pembayang" and the last 2 lines are the "maksud",ie the meaning. Where as in a "pantun kilat"
you forego the first 2 lines for "pembayang" and instead you have only 2 lines for "maksud",ie the meaning. What happen here is, I think, the people in DBKL are ignorant about this and thus created this out of place pantun which in BM we will say "pantun yang janggal". The billboard should just be " Orang Berbudi, Kia Berbahasa" roughly translated if you are kind/well-mannered/cultured/respectful towards me, I'll treat you the same. Clearly what DBKL has done is a case of what in Mandarin we called " Huat Sih Tian Chuk" ie adding legs to a drawing of a snake!

niamah..! Malaysia is ranked no.8 in SEA most corrupted, being Singapore and Hong Kong the least corrupted respectively.
It is not surprisingly a simple pantun can be distorted as such. But what to do, it all started from the G giving a free ride to the majority, spoiling them all the way, and when there's not enough, they asked loh.. after all the while with good food and luxuries without much hardship put in, going back to do some honest work will be a bane indeed.
Pardon me, but if the G continues to give and give without really asking the folks to work and be independent themselves, we will soon have one big society that is spoilt and lazy to work.

Patrick,

I salute the honesty of DBKL....since corruption is so rife and obvious in 1Bolehland, why not just be open about it.

So DBKL, kudos to you for being honest about "You Give, We Feel.......pretty damn good".

Perhaps the 1UMNO lapdogs such as 1PDRM, 1MACC, 1PIG, 1AG, etc should all follow DBKL's example instead of pretending they are not corrupt. Shame on all of you lapdogs

Affirmative Action Around the World: An Empirical Study (2005) by economist Thomas Sowell, concluded that no more than 5% of Malays “have been estimated to have actually benefited from these affirmative action programs and those people who were initially more fortunate were the most benefited” (Chapter 3).

In other words, the beneficiaries of the NEP have been those Malays with political connections, capital and skills, the “UMNOputras.”

Musa knew the day the MACC raided his house and found RM1.5 million in cash that his days were numbered. And the MACC also knows about Musa’s bank accounts in Singapore and Australia where tens of millions more are hidden.

But Musa is clever; or so he thought he is. Malaysia Today had earlier revealed the story about the MACC raid and the millions in cash they discovered in his house as well as the many more millions stashed in his overseas bank accounts. But he does not want this to be quoted as the reason he is being asked to go. So he told the Chinese underworld to leak a story to the Chinese mainstream media that he had resigned. And the China Press believed this story since it came from reliable sources. So they ran the story.

Then Musa jumped and the Minister, his best friend, was forced to deny this story. Then they sent the China Press a show cause letter. This is to give the impression that the China Press lied -- Musa did not resign. Instead, Musa’s contract is just not being renewed. That is all.

Yoo..those stupid malay are always like that one, lazy , want easy money so whatelse? Bribery lor..but it's the Chinese who always wana kaw-tim , if no one wana give then there's nothin' to take .in this case it's take two party's so let's not just hantam the taker, hantam also the one who gives.
But I think if DAP are running the goverment especialy if LGE are the prime minister there'll be no more bribery ...rite?
Is that what you are trying to say Patrick or if the Chinese running the goverment and all the malay are kuli then you will say that our country are perfect?

While we rejoice on hearing the news that the IGP's contract shall not be renewed after Sept.2010, we must bear in mind that the IGP's injustices must be brought to trial, if convicted he must serve jail terms. Sacking, retirement, non-renewal of contract is not the solution to the problem. Precedent must be set to deter others from repeating the injustices. Injustices against the country, injustices against the Rakyat must be reviewed and brought to the court of law, not kangaroo court.

'Why do you go into politics ? " I asked a statement assemblyman and a MP . 'To make money'. He answered. 'And to help the Rakyat.' "Without money one cannot help.' This was the honest answer given to me. Tun Razak had to caution the state assemblyman to be circumspect in the way they dispensed goodies to themselves. In the end he prescribed the cars they could buy and what contracts they could give themselves/friends. Unfortunately the link between political donations and government contracts was made a long time ago. It was mahathir who said - ' Why should I give contracts to my enemies. " I will give contracts to my friends.' This cosy relationship between big business and goverment has been detrimetal to the long term interests of the country. UMNO Divisional Heads become Class F contractors and are given contracts to help them fund their activities. Everyone becomes a collector. How is change possible ? One needs funds for political activities - for community work and for campaigning. Are there any good honest people out there ? Who will serve for the people with no desire to enrich themselves personally. Is an honest politician an oxymoron ? There is corrutpion everywhere. I am told repeatedly. Even in America and Britain. Look at Singapore and the Jade Mansion apartments - The LKY Family all got huge discounts and a Singapore Judge to boot. LKY said that it was normal for him to get discounts. Even his barber gave him a discount. There must be a revolution of minds and values in Malaysia. it is not the alothes we wear and the beard we keep - as Mahathir said - that determines our virtue and it is not the ocassional tipple and it is certainly not the mistakes young girls sometimes make that makes them evil - it is the stealing of money intended for schools and health facilties and for wages and housing and for welfare that is evil. And that line should be drawn more clearly.

Copy writers in this country will have to "gulung tikar".

Bro,

allow me to tell you a true story which took place in the early 90s. This M'sian lorry driver was driving in S'pore to deliver some product. His lorry hit a low tree branch and the branch fell down hitting another car. He stopped.
While trying to settle the matter with the driver of the car, a traffic police came. The police, himself and the car driver removed the branch. The police mediated between the both of them and the incident was settled amicably.
Feeling thankful to the police man for his assistance, our berbudi bahasa Malaysian lorry driver gave him 20 bucks. The police took it and rode off. The Malaysian driver delivered whatever he was supposed to deliver and drove back to M'sia.
At the crossway checkpoint, he was detained and charged for offering a bribe.

To him he was just being nice and berbudi bahasa ala-Malaysia.

To the Singapore police, that was a bribe.

True story.

ps the malaysian driver pleaded guilty.
