Newspaper stories that make the YB's sound so silly

Malaysia. A little frayed round the egdes but still my beloved homeland.
Happy birthday Peninsula Malaysia!

Sometimes, you wonder if it is really true that most of the major mainstream newspapers are owned by parties of the Barisan Nasional coalition. Why? They constantly print stories that really make our political leaders look and sound like total morons. For example, just in the Star today there are a couple of big obvious bloopers or fuck-ups by some editors somewhere.

Example #1

On page N14 of The Star there is a story about the 2010 Merdeka celebrations being held indoors in air-conditioned comfort in the Stadium Bukit Jalil. This year's 'modest' scale celebrations "incorporates elements of the 1Malaysia concept as well as the values of integrity and patriotism."

You probably know that this year's celebrations will feature the Malaysian armed forces personnel. According to the story the good folks' performances "include defence movements and formations by the armed forces, to bring out the spirit of independence." Okay, that's just the start of the incredulity.

Here is the killer part of the story. Rais Yatim whose ministry is in charge of production this year supposedly said, "There will be more than 15,000 people cramped in this stadium. This shows that we are truly 1Malaysia where although within a small confinement, we can cater for a very cohesive arrangement of people."

HUH??? What??? Cramping 15,000 people into an indoor stadium shows that we are truly 1Malaysia? Surely, The Star's article has not done good old, Rais any favours. Or have they?

Further down that page there is another example of something that might have lost something in translation.

Example #2

Culture and Arts Department director-general, Norliza Rofli said this year the celebs will showcase the ability and fighting spirit of the country’s security forces and about 1,500 armed forces and police personnel would take part in the performance.

Okay... but then...

"We will also be showing the images of all Yang di-Pertuan Agong from the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong until the present 13th, and pay tribute to our prime ministers since independence.....and the new concept was in line with the Government’s efforts to transform the country".

HUH??? Transform the country? How? When?

Have a good week ahead, folks and Happy Merdeka!

Niamah!!!

Transform the country via the slogan '1Malaysia menjana transformasi'. Very simple yet uncle Pat cannot understand.

What to do of them lah, if they could have come up with something smart and sensible, they would have been on the opposite political side a long time ago. Rais is a long-time spent politician, he did the legal fratenity a favour by joining politics. They will continue to talk rots, along the way doing a GREAT favour to the opposite sides as they needn't say more for the people like you and me are smart enough to see and hear for themselves. No wonder brilliant LKY from down under tiny Singapore are hoping BN will continue to rule for that will make Singapore more attractive to FDIs.

This moronic minister(Raisanak Yatim)should be thrown out of the cabinet long time ago.But how he got to be retained must be some fucking oversight.About the transformation of the country by showing the previous agongs and PM is to showcase the different facets of the country during the reign of the various rulers and PM.May be this DG english not so good and do not know how to express clearly what she intends to say so the reporter just reported what comes out of her mouth.Such a pathetic public officer!Niamah!

Aiyah Bro Pat

Your tokkok cannot beat these people lah. I really don't know what all these words mean and how they conclude at the end of what they say. Perhaps bro Pat you can enlighten me. I hear you cook up great dishes so if I can extrapolate, you must be able to cook up what these people are trying to say ! If only cocktalk can be tasted you could have a new dish in your restaurant !!!

Take care during this tokkok season.

What the ministers or directors said are probably translated from Bahasa Melayu? And as a form 6 student, I think politics has pretty much fucked up the Malay language. Sad.

They are actually expressing truths from their minds and hearts. That is why we hear garbage from them. Actually the Polis should demonstrate to the Army and public their combat expertises, as more people died in their hand than at the hands of the Army. Fruit for thought eh!. Merdeka for the rakyat of Malaysia. Corrupted people are not included.

All major religions of the world encourage people from all walks of life to visit their places of worship. In fact, they make it easy for people to visit by removing man-made policies and traditions. But here they are erecting barriers, making it difficult to know Islam better.

Visiting places of worship makes one understand the other religion better which lead to goodwill, and in turn lead to harmony and peace. Where there is understanding, there is no need for tolerance.

With Umno's style of Islam, the non-Muslims are made to tolerate but never to understand the Muslims, and we know tolerance has its limit. Once it reaches its limit, patience runs thin and soon it dries up. Then, it is only a matter of time the non-Muslims get angry. Sad but true.

Bolehland already has such a bad reputation for her buckling economy, brain drain numbers, a “bunch of idiots” in the judiciary, bowed media and biased and brutal Police Force.

Added to that is the burgeoning bigotry, “bloody racists”, brute-majority parliament, buffoons in the MACC and a badly “screwed-up” AG Chambers!

What about Umno’s self-serving sycophants who deceive, deny and deprive the poor Malays of what has been due to them, like the RM52 billion worth of shares allocated to the Malay community since 1971?

The Umnoputras betray their own race by bleeding this country dry and siphoning and stashing their ill-gotten gains overseas whilst making the non-Malays the scapegoat for the “failure” of the NEP!

Merdeka! Merdeka.........dari apa? It's been many decades since we have departed from the rules of the Brits. Well, perhaps the rules of the law, democracy, a functioning elected government who serves the people who put them there, independent judicial system,.....I give up. There has been a departure from too many things 'right'. What would have been? What could have been? had the Brits stayed. I always like to reflect on this with HK as a proven example. Would we have been a better functioning nation? I only dare to dream.........It's been 53 years too late.

Previously, maybe PAS was racist, but who can deny the fact that Umno itself is racist today after 22 years of 'bastardisation' by Dr Mahathir Mohamad?

The old Umno is different, it comprised of people like Tunku Abdul Rahman, whom Zam agreed was for the people of Malaysia. The new Umno was created by Mahathir. He has made the Malays look like they are racist by openly admitting that Umno Baru is a racist organisation.

Since PAS has become a Pakatan member, it has become less racist, but Umno has become worse.

Prophet Muhammed welcomed non-Muslims into the mosque. There is no mention of dress code for non-Muslims in the Quran or Hadith when entering mosques. So what is all this Utusan Malaysia 'penghinaan' about? How about mosques banning corrupt Umno politicians and lying Utusan journalists from entering Muslim places of worship even though they are attired in a 'holy' Muslim way? Would Allah object?

Why Police investigating Wee Meng Chee for sedition when there is nothing seditious in his latest 3-minute rap against the Kulai secondary school principal for making racist slurs against students?

Dr Mahathir should be called 'Bapa Rasuah Malaysia Moden'. During his 21 years in power, the integrity and credibility of all civil and national institutions have been destroyed. He has spanking hardware such as KLIA, Twin Towers, LRT, Putrajaya and the North South Highway to show as his legacy of wastage. All these build by public funds especially oil money which any fool of a prime minister can do.

He has failed to build on the human resources and software of the people and to elevate the country to a high-income one, create a world-class automobile, public transport and oil/gas industry, global high-ranking universities and nurture the innate talent and skills of Malaysians to be successful, remain in the country and be proud it.

All these will create reinvestment and wealth for the good of all. Instead he has only created a few billionaires and multi-millionaires from his cronies and his own family. He has failed the nation and must be brought to justice.

Then Namewee's latest hit song 'Nah!' will be more qualified as the embodiment of 1Malaysia ideals. In his creation we can see Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Hokkien, Rap&Middle Finger(imported, yet very much localised),the no-taboo-attached local fruit--banana, the widely accepted culture of banana eating, and the overarching theme of Anti-Racism..,all nicely blended. And THAT's truly 1Malaysia!

The value of these Datuk titles must not only be determined by the post they held. The integrity and ability of the receiver, on top of their expected performance, must also be considered.

In our country, there are eight sultans seeking to award a nation with 27 million population. Look at some states which are famous for having a list of awardees longer than my toilet roll.

Most of us have heard that titles can bought and if this continues, what is the value of having a Dato or Tan Sri or even a Tun title? What is the point sharing the title with law breakers? It will be a disgrace rather than a honour for having these titles.

I was told even an Ah Long (loan shark) in Tangkak is also a dato. You judge for yourself how much we should respect these titleholders. Did the Queen of England honour so many people on her birthday? I supposed that's why their 'Sir' title is respected worldwide.

I agree that one wrong should not be reciprocated with another wrong. What Namewee insinuated is indeed wrong. But then look at Umno's track record.

The 'pendatang' remarks by Ahmad Ismail from Penang and PM's aide Nasir Safar, the various racist courses in BTN, the Malay headmistress from Johor, the Malay headmaster from Kedah, Perkasa and many more examples.

All these preceding events had influenced Namewee to bring out the obvious. Had the issue been nipped in the bud, surely Namewee would have no basis for his satire. All the same, let this be a lesson to Umno. If Namewee is severely punished, it will set the bar for everybody else. So go ahead and charge him and let the trial begin so that all the rakyat can judge.

There have been many comments about religion and politics, some enlightening, some just the opposite, some positive and those that are detrimental to ones' blood pressure!. So going into a mosque to do charity work despite not being a Muslim is a big issue, ok fine. That means sight seeing a mosque should also be forbidden, right? Or am I wrong that THIS is and has been allowed for tourists since I can't remember when! The funny thing is that the mosque management should be tried and quartered for not following the standard procedure laid down to them by the powers that be years ago But then again, a politician should have had a better knowledge of protocol, right? Just goes to show what these politicians have between their ears these days. If you don't know about the dos and don't s, you'd better go back and learn quick BEFORE you swallow your whole leg up to your knee cap and end up kissing your own bloody arses! Your actions as OUR elected representative WILL reflect on the constituents that elected you in the first place. Then there is a call for a fatwa banning non muslims from entering mosques all over Bolehland. Ok, also fine with me but can I also suggest that a fatwa for Muslims banning them from entering our places of worship etc or better still not joining in our religious celebrations or such (does this start to sound moronic to you now?). Better still why not ban them from places like Karaokes, Dangdut halls, Bars (just ban everything haram to Muslims. End of story, right? Grow up people, there are ways to peacefully settle this without hurtful comments or seeing ulterior motives in a simple gesture. If it is for good just leave it at that and I rue the day when my sincere charitable gesture as a human being wanting to help another in need regardless of colour, creed or religion is seen in a dark light! Ok, this something off topic but I have to get this off my chest. I am already 50 years of age but this shit still happens. It's nearly the end of the fasting month, right?. Let me relate to you what always happens when this time comes round each and every year. I am Chinese by race, catholic by religion, human by nature (in no particular order!). My late father is Chinese and Malay (Batak) mix while my Mum is Portuguese, Spanish, Malay (Batak), Chinese and Indian mix. I look like a Malay and speak like one. My mannerism also portray me like a malay. I also speak Hokkien and English fluently. Got the picture so far? Now the story, on the 3rd of Ramadan I was berated by a man with a kopiah (Muslim skullcap) for eating in public and should be ashamed for doing so. WHAT?!?! Was I asked whether I was a Muslim ...NO!. He assumed that I was Malay and a Muslim and just went ahead and spewed out all the unnecessary comments. What got me was that in between the lines uttered along the way was one about if you have to eat do so away from the eyes of the public especially the 'kafirs' Eh?!?! Now mind you all this while I was just silent and let him go on and on, maybe I shouldn't have but you know when one get into that stage just let him let off steam as they say. At the end of that tirade I pulled out my Identity card and exposed the crucifix on my chain and you should have seen the look of the poor guy's face! I could have given him a piece of my mind but decided to just say "Don't assume that all that look like a malay is malay or muslim and don't assume that all that look like Chinese are indeed Chinese, Indians or whatever". Giving advice gently make a better impact than being angry and shouting. My family members, direct and extended, are of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Punjabis and Westerners and the majority of us DO NOT LOOK ethnic. The moral of the story you might ask? Simple. Hell, I'm one example of 1Malaysia in all sense of the word but I deviate. I, as a 'Kafir' don't give a flying leap if you want to fast or not as THAT is your right. It's between you and the Almighty, period! But please, don't keep tapping me on the shoulders while I am drinking or eating next year and giving me a piece of you mind BEFORE you ask for some identification and I am pretty sure that most sane Muslims don't eat or drink in public if they decide not to fast. BTW, I have had 3 more separate incident to date. With whom you might ask, don't ask, cause it's the same every year but with a twist in one incident. Apparently, stopping in front of the mamak shop waiting to pick up a friend (non muslim) is also a religious crime (ulterior eating motives I assume!) NUMBNUTS!

The ex-Land and Co-operative Development Minister, Tan Sri Kasitah Gaddam, has a tape-recording of the AG extorting money from him. Yes, that’s right, the AG demanded money from Kasitah Gaddam or else he was going to charge him for corruption.

Kasitah Gaddam then went to meet the Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, and played the tape for the PM to hear. But the Prime Minister did nothing. And Kasitah Gaddam refused to pay the money that the AG demanded. So the AG charged him for corruption.

The shame is that few Malays voiced their objections to the disgusting remarks of the Malay school-heads (both in Johore and Kedah). Where are the voices of condemnation for these racist rants? Are they afraid of pilloried by members of their own community? Or have they no principles? And lack a conscience?
