Billion Ringgit palace

One man's home is another man's palace

I am sure you all know by now that the new Istana Negara is going to cost Malaysian tax-payers in excess of RM1billion by the time it is completed. Just the other day someone sent me a piece of comparative trivia. According to this story, the Singapore government spent SGD200million and built themselves a world class desalination plant that produces potable water that surpasses WHO standards! People's money spent for the benefit of the people. Yes? Now, I am sure our government spends for the benefit of the Rakyat too. After all, there are banners all over town the past few days with Najib's face and proclaiming "Rakyat Didahulukan" (citizens' needs come first?)

I am a loyal Malaysian citizen. I love my country. And the Agung is my king and has my respect and loyalty. And whether you are Malay, Chinese or Indian or any one of the races that make up Bangsa Malaysia.Whether you are a kampung or city dweller. Whether you are a farmer or a university graduate. Whether you support Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat. If you have an ounce of intelligence. You must ask of the powers that approved the RM1billion extravagance......

WAFFOR!!!

NIAMAH!!!

Sorry. Since it is the start of the weekend let's have a few laughs to go with that.

Let's start with one from one of the masters of political comedy...

"I use public transport once in a while" - Syed Hamid Albar, former Foreign Minister and current chairman of the Land Public Transport Commission.

"......commercials on sanitary pads are openly shown on TV and this could influence the young to get involved in social ills" - Johor Puteri Umno delegate Azura Mohd Afandi.

The palace is a place that could actually help attract tourists... unlike the ridiculous 100storey tower.

I wonder if the palace will be open to tourists / Malaysians.

There's practically no touristy royal stuff in Malaysia. Considering how prominent the King is in the constitution. I always thought it was kind of funny that king's palace was originally a rich chinese guy's house who was kicked out by the Japanese.

But of course 1B is a lot of money to recoup.

Haiyoo.. this Azura Mohd Afandi chap is a real sohai lah..!! those advertisements only show pads.. how good they are.. how comfortable the user wil feel.. stuffs like that.. its purely d promotion of their products..

those advertisement got promote girls meh..? ya.. no doubt thr r females in d advertisement.. does that mean that all advertisements wif females inside wil influence d young to gt involve in social ills ka..? or u wan males to promote pads izit..??

Azura ah.. u balik lah kampung n tanam jagung la.. wif dis kind of sohai mentality.. how u wan our country to develop ah..??

i think her brains were eaten by zombies while she was busy playing Plants vs. Zombies.

not sure if it's true but the rumour is that the palace bill keeps sky-rocketing because the incoming occupant is skimming percentages for his own pocket. the previous 'owner' had already taken his share. the construction is a means to an end.

"Once in a while" yeah right! Only when it near election time! With all the allowances give you'd think that he would "ride" the public transport system? (and I am not pussyfooting with the term "ride" here!). And hello Cik Putri...since when did the sanitary pads advertisments twist the minds of the public? You and your kind maybe and I am NOT talking race here (So don't make this an issue and twist things around!). If you teach the younger generation proper values and ethics in their growing up years they will see things in a mature way ....oh who am I kidding!?!?!? The so called teachers are already shit for brains so the results are naturally the same, right? BTW, TV3 was penalized RM50,000 for the Hari Raya advert but I seriously think they should have had their license revoked and people sacked but we know who they answer to right??!? NUMBNUTS!

Why worry about the country going into bankruptcy when Naib will no longer be around to face the music. Najib learnt that and many others from his master shenanigan Mahathir. Though the project may be mega but it will have no impact on the NEP and thus it will take another 53 years to obtain yet another few percentages.

Sanitary towel ad on TV will cause youth to commit social ills? What f'cking logic is it? The person who says it must be thinking of wild ideas on sex associated with sanitary towel on the female sex organ! What a low thinking person!
On the huge spending of the palace, why must the govt spent so much? What good is it to the rakyat? Why dont spent less and the other part of the budget goes to improve amenities for the benefits of the rakyat at large. What kind of thinking our present leaders have? I think we should teach them a lesson in GE13.

As a ex-RTM DJ turned restauranteur, you must be living in a 2-story, Semi-D or maybe a banglow house. Yet, you sounded very SAD and cannot find a PALACE of your own.

Hi Pat,

Notice the frequency of the road siren, with the police out-riders reminding the common joe drivers to five way?

Nothing wrong with those that blasted out by the ambulances, fire engines. Same for Agung & the various Sultans. Even though there r evidence of mis-uses by these drivers. These r providered for in the national protocol, with VERY clear guide-lines; ie number of out-riders for Agung & Sultan ONLY, when the said person is inside the escorting car.

The PM IS not entitled to this privilege! So r all the others minor politikus.

But lately, for the past few yrs, many politikus have had jumped on this privileges, to the inconveniences of the other road users. See for yourself, along Jln T Razak near umno hq for these last few days for the glaring example.

The country needs to fix its problems - its record-high crime rate, its record-high road accident rate, its record-high budget deficit, its record-high illegal immigrants, its record-high toll rates, its record-high car prices, its record-high traffic congestion, its record-high number of people emigrating, its record-high number of unemployed graduates, and most of all - its record-high corruption.

This is what we need to fix. We don't need another stupid building!

If for the last 53 years UMNO leaders had not been self-serving and truthfully implemented the NEP to help the poor Malays and non Malays, the 30% equity would have long been achieved and probably too, Malaysia would be on par with Singapore if not better. The rakyat have totally lost confidence in the UMNO-led BN government and we are ready to PR a chance to govern.

When UMNO is supposed to be helping the poor Malays but instead cheated them like in the case of Felda settlers, then it is not surprising that even their Malay supporters in the rural areas are eroding. No doubt they took a long time to wake up from their slumber but it is better late than never.

Anonymous said...

Has the previous mega-projects ever benefit the rakyat? Think of Perwaja, Puterajaya, Proton, MSC and all the corridors...

Surely Umno will say the country needs mega-projects because guess who will get all the contracts awarded to them. Not the ordinary Malays and bumiputeras. Only Umnoputras gets the lion share of the mega-contracts, then they sub-contract them to some well-connected cronies and take their cut.

In truth, it is not Malaysia that needs mega-projects, but Umno/BN members and their cronies so that they can make money off the overpriced, lucrative contracts.

Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung has urged house buyers to sign up two-generation housing loans so that more Malaysians can afford to own houses.

“The most important thing is for the individual to own a house for his family to live in. If loan repayment is extended to the second generation, that means the family will remain intact,” said Chor yesterday after launching the Malaysia Building Society Bhd’s Ultimate Mortgage programme on Friday (Oct 22).

"...For every 1000 gallons of water
Singapore pays 3 sen for the raw water from Malaysia

Malaysia sells this treated water at RM3.95 to Johor residents ...."

The world society of neurosurgeons has pinpointed Malaysia as the best place to go for brain transplants. The neurosurgeons declared that Malaysian brains or that thing in the block above the neck particularly those belonging to the umno types come pretty unused and easily acquired from Banting lawyers. The massive amount of unused gigabytes which have been wasted on these brain dead jaguh kampongs would be a boon to those more hard working. However the neurosurgical society does not and cannot guarantee the quality of the transplants as most have been found to have holes like Swiss cheese.

As mentioned by Tiger (8:04pm), the last time Syed Hamid took a long-distance public transport was 30years ago. No wonder he has this perception that semuanya ok. Sanitary pads make one high? I thot it's supposed to be a turn-off instead of the other way round. I guess only a pervert would think otherwise. Having said that, well, a pervert is a pervert no matter what he sees. He (or she) may even get excited watching KFC commercials or PM giving speech! So how? Ban tv?

This is not surprising and is typical of the Malaysian mentality. We have the (rakyat's) money to spend on all these wonderful equipment and services, but nine out of 10 times, the management is poor. Lack of training, unskilled staff, no thinking through the maintenance contracts, and so these items become white elephants.

Remember the RM500,000 public toilets in Bukit Bintang? I wonder how many people have used them. Are they still in operation?

Is that how the prime minister and his deputy live? What a lavish lifestyle for a country which has a budget deficit year in, year out. No wonder, there is so much poverty still in the rural areas despite being ruled for 53 years by Umno/BN. They spend the rakyat's tax-money as if there is no tomorrow.

And despite being audited year in year out, and being told that money is being wasted left and right, there is no sign that things will improve. If anything, it is becoming worse by the day.

Let them have the snap elections, and let the rakyat vote them out of Putrajaya. If they think Putrajaya is the private property of BN, let the new government move the capital back to KL.

When you have a Prime Minister of the country justifying political corruptions as merely money politics, how else could we expect those below him to not be opportunistic and began to justify their corrupt practices or demands.

The green lights to corruption was given by Mahathir and the current/existing problems lies with Mahathir!

As a prime minister, Mahathir failed miserably to nib corruption in the bud. Instead, corruption found its early roots during his term as prime minister.

Now that he is no longer the Prime Minister, he is currently instigating racial antagonism amongst his countrymen. Malaysians who had once lived peacefully and cordially amongst themselves once again have to face the spiteful venomous ego of an aging failed ex-leader who now had to resort to racism to stay in the limelights....or is it to avoid the consequencews of an inevitable onslaught against corruptions by a potential new government in the offing?
