Aiyoh!!!

I guess by now a lot of you will have already read about this latest foot-in-mouth episode courtesy of one of our YB's. But imagine my shock early this morning when I came across the article in The Sun.

The Defense Minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that one of the possible reasons for the low intake of non-Malays in the armed forces is that their "patriotism spirit is not high enough"!!!

Aiyuh! Brudder how can you say like dat?

Now, how the YB arrived at that conclusion is anybody's guess. But then he is a YB so he has his inspirations la.

Patriotism spirit not high enough. I think the YB should now explain to all Malaysians, Malays and non-Malays, what his or the BN government's idea of a high-enough patriotism spirit is. Is it to die in battle in defense of the country? Well, there isn't the Communist terrorists threat anymore. Sukarno is long dead. Thailand is still trying to decide if they want to wear red or yellow at the next parade. Singapore is too busy being the world' most s successful country. So I guess the chances of having to lay down ones life in defense of the country from external military forces is remote at best. No? So it is certainly not that the non-Malays lack balls to join the armed forces. Then the YB also said that it could be due to lack of encouragement from family members. Baarger! These YB's always find a way of blaming the parents, don't they? Okay. Maybe it is true. YB, let me ask you this. As a parent, would you encourage your children to take up what you know are dead end jobs? Huh? Would you?

Perhaps one day when the non-Malays bleed 30% less blood when shot in battle the YB's will see an uptrend in recruitment of non-Malays in the armed forces.  Hahahaha...sorry.

NIAMAH!!!

don't worry. maybe the non-malays can get a head start of 30% when they go in to battle. now don't you guys complain again la ok!

The one and only reason why non-Malays refuse to join the armed forces is simple and outright! Who, in the right frame of mind (being a non-Malay) would want to be OVERRIDDEN by a Malay who knows less than oneself? They just got to where they are simply because they are MALAYS!

Our Ministers are good at talking down to us: 'do what I tell you to, not what I do'...

Najib: Change your lifestyle, while I fly by private jet and go in a motorcade with outriders shouting at others to give way;
Hishamuddin: Send your children to national schools, while I send mine to international schools;
Zahid: Non-Malays are unpatriotic because they did not join the armed forces, partly because their parents did not encourage them; did you or your children join the armed forces?

I think those who misused government funds by overpricing procurements for their own gains are real traitors, worse than being unpatriotic.

Modern day traitors are those who waste public fund (check AG reports), tokkok, go holiday on rakyat money, paying unreasonable price for 2nd-hand military equipment.... But this is acceptable to bn.

Yes. Communists are long gone. Even China and Russia are moving towards capitalism. But our dUMdNO flers still try to scare their own kind with such bogeyman.

Fuck this bugger minister! He knows the reasons why non-malay do not like to join and simply give excuses(unpatriotism and lack of parental encouragement) and just walk off from the parliament.Such a irresponsible minister!
I think these ministers(from UMNO)like Zahid and that 'samseng'fler,Noh Omar, are very arrogant and not fit to be minister. They are real racist!

Maybe some people forgot the sacrifice by Malaysians of various ethnicity including my forefathers and yours too. But what they received at the end of the battle was not even a pat in the back, instead the soldier's children were called "kaum pendatang". Then they used the camps to impose religion and force conversion in exchange for promotion. Later, the quota system ensured that the non-bumis were separated out so that the budget allocated for scholarships and further studies in the Armed Forces were channeled as required. BTW, patriotism is not just national defense. Ms Nicol David has brought up the name of our country as famously as Mr Punch Gunalan, Mr Jimmy Choo, Ms Lillian Too, Zang Toi & Bernard Chandran. However, I won't deny that Malaysians like Sudirman Arshad, Ramli Ibrahim, Sheila Majid, RPK, and Lat also promoted our country in a positive light ... Last time I checked , patriotism is love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it ... Not necessary for us to promote war, after all we can all be friendly and amicable with our neighbours.

YB don't say is unpatriotic. Look at the enormous wealth the country is getting and helping the nation. When there is no war there is nothing much too do only pergi belajar and get higher degree to qualify for higher pay and pension. For you , you are like the ikan masim come alive after you make u turn in your political career. So you need to bodek more. But I think you got a court case on for hitting a gentleman for being friendly to your daughter. What happen to the case. Kaki ini pun bolih jadi Menteri. Mana standard Negara kita.

The Espirit De Corp already long dead among the loyal citizen. The YB is a doctorate should know the reason.Any Ah kow or Maniam know the reason. You don't need brains to be at the top in government service. Those who cultivate bodek culture will be the smart one if they want to go up. Some with brain will know how to manipulate to enrich oneself. For others not so ambitious hari hari enjoy life and minum teh and wait to collect pension once bersara.

Would you trust a minister who makes assumptions to take care of your country's defense? Can't imagine what assumptions he would make if we are invaded. No wonder we keep getting "invaded" by illegal immigrants already.

Hello Patrick,

Nothing to differentiate between this doctorate YB minister of defence and the other doctorate "mode changing" minister of culture. Both are chronic cases of foot in mouth sufferers. These half past six ministers have a duty roster for each one of them to make an arse of themselves at certain periods of the year.

In some ways, this minister of defence is right that the nons are not patriotic enough. Lets see....mmmmm, I'm sure many nons are not patriotic enough to be test crash dummies in poorly maintained army helicopters or army trucks.

hmmm.... the Ah Kow and Maniam are paying taxes for the country. That is what good citizen do in time of peace. That is not patriotic??

Hmmm..... The Ah Kow and Maniam are paying taxes in time of peace. Is that unpatriotic?? The YBs comment once again based racially rather than fact. So sad to see what our political front is coming to.

I wouldn't waste time with idiots like this so-called minister. Malu-lah, Malaysians, to have such low IQ animal as your MP and minister! Niamah Cibai!

So we see the biggest mistake now? Having any Tom Diok and Harry to be the Min. Of Defence - Unpatriotic? Hello did your parents encourage you to join the arm forces? or did you encourage any of your children to join the arm forces. No??????

Patrick

You should try to find more info on the Indon confrontation against malaysia. The main burden was shoulder by the Pommies, Aussies and Kiwis. Non bumis were called up by the Mindef manpower and ready to report for military training if Sukarno call his forces to attack Malaysia.

can we have more info on this confrontation?

Without Communist threathening the British, the British would not have 'surrender' and kow tow to the Alliance Party for Merdeka.

Read RPK's account of this bit of forgotten history:

Umno's track record should clue us in as to what can be expected of the Citizenship, Patriotism and Constitution components in SPM History. After all, Najib Razak has already pronounced Malaysia to have fundamentally a two-tier and unequal citizenship. The Biro Tata Negara orientation on patriotism is common knowledge.

May I suggest that the present batch of cabinet minister make it compulsory for them to attend the Berkhidmat Negara programme to show their patriotism.

If you want to be in control of your own destiny and career, then you will not join the army if you belong to 'the others'.

There is no equal opportunity in the military, only prejudicial treatment of the 'others' in the army.

Promotions are virtually minimal, and if given, are so far in between. Moreover, they are based on skin colour and not merit, and if ever given, it's because there is no one else at all or the one-in-a-thousand unit commander is not racist.

Most of the Malays who join the military nowadays are not really patriotic per se, but rather there is no other opportunity elsewhere.
