WTF!!!

WHAT                THE                !!!!

Today's Star reported that the high-deck bus that crashed in Cameron Highlands and killed 27 people was illegally modified to carry more passengers.  The bus was originally designed to carry 19 but was modified to accommodate 40 passengers!!! The story says that the bus had a permit for only 19 passengers. Now, if I am not mistaken there was an earlier story that said that Puspakom had inspected and approved the bus about a month ago. I think it is the duty and responsibility of Puspakom to come out and tell us and the families of the victims what happened at that inspection.  Did they inspect and approve a 19-seater or 40-seater bus?  The story even goes further to say that the crashed bus had been inspected by Puspakom regularly since the bus was registered in 2007.  So what happened Puspakom?

Since 2003 there have been 122 people killed in bus accidents in Malaysia. And the reaction from the government is always the same. First express great shock and horror. Then point some fingers and look for scapegoats - badly maintained buses, poorly-skilled drivers etc. That will be followed by announcements of some study or other to be conducted by "independent panel of experts". This latest tragedy is no different. There will be another study. Okay. Fine. But first can we all know the results of all the other studies and what actions have been taken since? Please. Oh yes, and of course Chua Soi Lek has come out with a "holistic" approach to something or other. What the fuck that means I don't know. Do you? And Chua also suggested that buses install seat belts.  Ho-hum, Chua Soi Lek. That's old hat. Some other YB made that noise long before you. But you won't be the last one lah.

And in Selangor, Ronnie Liu has come out with the big announcement that using the 1Malaysia logo on advertisements in the state is NOT allowed. That's great Ronnie. But why only now? 1Malaysia was announced by Najib months ago and has been used to further the Barisan Nasional/Umno spin all over the country. Now suddenly banned in Selangor. That's a bit slow isn't it? I know, I know. There's just been way too much on your plate. Do I want to understand and sympathise? No.

One parting thought. Is 1Malaysia a Najib original? Motor-mouth, Nazri has released 2 letters that are supposed to prove that it is. One from APCO denying that it was ever involved in the creation of the concept and the other a sworn statement by a political consultant who claimed credit for the One Israel concept. As a Malaysian citizen I really don't give a fuck! Why is that so important? It doesn't matter to me who created it. It is still CRAP! Anyway, if a doubt has been cast about the involvement of APCO in Umno/BN spin doctoring do you think we're going to believe you just because you produced 2 letters from the same fuckers? Hiyoh!

This just received from a Niamah!!! visitor. I thought I might post it here in case some of you don't go to read the comments. Read it. Raises some interesting questions.

Nazri Abdul Aziz, have you got your facts right?

1) You put forward the motion to refer Anwar Ibrahim to the committee in April 2010.

2) The Apco letter, which had been used to justify Anwar's suspension, was dated Aug 19, 2010.

3) You (not the rights and privileges committee) received Robert Shrum's letter only last week, meaning, the committee had not yet received this letter when they recommended to suspend Anwar.

4) Now you are telling the world you have proof that Anwar lied.

It looks very obvious to me that when you moved in Parliament to refer Anwar to the committee these two 'documents', which you now refer to, were never in your hands at that time. So, four months before Apco's letter was received, you already decided Anwar was guilty.

Minister Mentor is not ‘Mental’. By his own admission, with new and more educated Sporean voters coming of age, the pap cannot last more than 2 elections forward. If they want to keep up this sham democracy, they have to find more supporters and the only way is from new citizen voters (assumed to be pro-pap) hence the mad rush to give out Citizenship certs like toilet papers.
This is not to say that economic reasons, low birth rates, etc.. are not valid, indeed they can spin every reasoning to their favour with a compliant propaganda media. But is massive population increase the only solution for Singapore? We pay them millions, we expect them to come up with better solutions.
We must ask ourselves, what kind of ‘elected’ government in the world will push forward a reckless policy of massive population increase, causing untold sufferings among common and poorer Singaporeans, the very people who voted them into power and indeed depend on them for their lives. The people who really benefit are the ruling elites, the civil servants, and businessmen who become richer from the abundant cheaper labour imports.
Are there no dangers to this population explosion? Economic recessions come in cycles, military conflicts, terrorism attacks like 911, or new epidemics more vilent than sars, etc..etc.. can cause serious harm to singapore. A collapse will lead to an exodus of foreign workers. FTs who cannot service their huge hdb loans will sell their flats at whatever prices, or otherwise jump ship, like in some arab countries recently. Massive increase in unemployment will lead to chaos.
Please, we do not need a crystal ball to know what will happen to our beloved Singapore if the PAP is allowed to continue in power unchecked.

Najib’s assurance that the price hikes will have “minimal impact” on Malaysian consumers back in July were not reflected in the latest round of subsidy cuts earlier this month.

The price for white sugar has gone up by 55 per cent since January; it now costs RM2.10 per kg, up from RM1.45 per kg.

The rise in sugar price has triggered a chain reaction, causing the price of popular drinks such as “teh tarik”, “kopi susu” and Chinese herbal tea to spike.

If the authority is doing their damn work, these bus companies should have their business license terminated and the bosses brought to court on man slaughter charges.

Many buses go off the road when travelling downhill probably due to (i) the driver is not experienced enough to handle the bus downhill (ii) the bus driver is "riding" the brakes causing the brakes to "fade" and become ineffective (iii) the buses are having "cheap" brake pads.

The 'regular' highland buses that ply up and down Genting Highland for example, do not have such problems as the drivers know how to handle their buses.

Should not the authorities train and test the drivers and qualify them for uphill & downhill control?

Why there is a rush to award the RM43 billion job or part thereof to Gamuda-MMC. Obviously some people are getting fabulously wealthy by orchestrating this deal.

Why is Putrajaya forming a SPV to finance this project when it was announced the last time, this was to be private sector project financed by private sector? Here is why. Make public the liability, make private the profitability.

Or why now, UEM and EPF who together control almost 70% of the PLUS highways appear to balk at an 11th hour offer by a little kichimayung Jelas Ulung. Maybe there is some collusion and conspiracy to defraud.

Or why people in MAS are buying a large number of airplanes without justifying the purchases to the volume of passengers? Because maybe, large amount of commissions exchange hands.

Does the money go to UMNO and BN?

Anonymous said...

BN said the federal government will not be liable to pay for any cost overruns from the construction process of the KL MRT.

Judging from the government's past blunders, it will be the rakyat again who will pay for the excess.
Many suspect that the cost overrun will be renamed 'variation order'. The question need to be asked if eventually there are cost overrun or variation order in the region of billions of ringgit whether the project delivery partner MMC-Gamuda have the means to pay, and in all likelihood if they don't, whichever government in power then will end up getting loaded with it.

And will MMC-Gamuda be required to provide a bank guarantee that they will be able to pay for any cost overrun and will it be something like PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone) where the government provided some kind of guarantee to enable PKFZ to get bank loans?

The trouble with all the previous scandals is that the Umno/BN government credibility is so low, not many are prepared to believe them.

BN came out with a series of 3-letter abbreviations to sell as dreams to the Malaysian public. Considering how easily some Malaysians have fallen victim to Internet scams, you have to say it’s been clever of Najib to hawk GTP, ETP, NEM and whatever else to make it appear he’ll deliver sure success. Never mind that he has done nothing to bring about the much-needed reforms that are essential to putting our institutions in proper working order again, such as restoring the independence of the judiciary, revamping the police force, freeing the media, making the Elections Commission independent, etc.

BN of course has the means to pay for the public relations advice using taxpayers’ money, and it has the government machinery to showcase the gimmicks. Not to mention the cooperation of the mainstream media as well. PR, however, has none of these at its disposal. It depends quite a bit on the vagaries (and little vulgarities courtesy of Niamah and Namewee) of luck and circumstance.

The first thing our go-vernment must do is ask the transport minister to resign or face the music not because many people lost their lives and many people lost their loved ones but because most importantly many dead are from a foreign country. It is just like our people go to this country and commit a serious crime.

Also, there is a JPJ Singh who always sing a new tune whenever there is a serious accident causing deaths and property losses. What is his tune now?

Then, there is a JPJ Cik Mat who airs on Traffic FM Fridays who claims to be an expert in all kinds of vehicles and declared that he and other officers have made an audit of all roads and found them to be very safe. Sure or not?

We had a minister who said that buses crash through guard rails because they are too low. Just add one more rail and no buses would crash through. Then a month or two later a bus did crash through a guard rail and a newspaper picture clearly showed a double guard rail. So even double rail would not work.

Why are we having to install and pay through our noses the third brake light when heavy lorries are exempted? Is it less dangerous for us to ram into a braking lorry? Why are most lorries not fitted with collision protection bars at the rear to prevent cars from going deep under the lorry chassis and causing sure and instant deaths?

Two-thirds of Malaysians are against the 100-storey tower, people are against nuclear power, the colossal scandal in PKFZ (Port Klang Free Zone), moronic tolls, IPP (independent power producers) privatisation programmes and all the rent-seeking beneficiaries, just to name a few.

How then can we label this government the government of the people, by the people, and for the people? Or is it more aptly to label this government the government of the elites, by the families, and for the cronies?

1 Malaysia definately is a political slogan from BN government.

Its blue print actually never been put into black and white. Anything which is not put into constitution can be changed at any time to suit the purpose of the occasion. what is the occasion? The PRO13.

Many details are undecided due to rejection by Umno's rank and file at the back scene. The decided one already out for show and can be heard daily coming out from their mouths and the controlled media.
That's is why Chua SL was attacked after giving out some sound-good "1 Malaysia" statement during an economic forum. The statement was not approved.

The big brother, Umno's rank and file have doubts and own reservation about it. Because of wanting to win the next election, they keep quiet.

Why is APCO's word being taken as the absolute truth in the motion to suspend Anwar? APCO has been paid millions to work on behalf of the Malaysian government, Nazri admitted as much few months ago, so common sense they will lie on behalf of the government. That's their job and that's what they do best, spin the facts. The goons in BN must think that the general population of malaysia is either stupid or retarded. This is the same as when somebody accused another person of murder and instead of using other evidence that is out there, you choose to instead take the word of the alleged killer that he didn't do it. This is the best example of oxymoronic.

The root problems revolve around the NEP, the rising extremism based on race or religion. These make us a close society. Talented people gravitate towards open societies because such societies provide the optimum economic and cultural milieu conducive for attraction of domestic and foreign investments, innovation and R&D and also the cosmopolitan environment for leisure and lifestyle of the talented and skilled.

Sure, China, Taipei, Korea, Vietnam and India lose their talents as well but are compensated by substantial returnees – in part due to the right mix of policies to expand the economy and generate career opportunities for the talents to work and thrive.

They don’t have the NEP and Bumi-non Bumi dichotomy and hence could engender greater patriotism amongst their nationals returning. Whilst they become increasingly more open a society, we become more closed: that’s the difference.

To be sure, the PM knows the root problems. Najib himself said “a society that is closed up will not attract the best brains; it will attract mediocre people and the good ones would have left the country, and we will be a lot poorer as a result”.

However knowing is one thing, addressing and having the political will to address the root problem is another, lacking which Talent Corp becomes a posturing to be seen doing something than actually doing it – all because of the fear of losing political support and positions.

Malaysians here and in Diaspora become despondent when NEM reverses to NEP, Perkasa gets appeased in its agenda than rebuked and chastised. (In fact quite the reverse happened).

Limiting hope, growth and opportunity always exacerbate the exodus than reverse the migration of the brightest and the best of any country.

The Umno-dominated government seems to have a long-term master plan to have a Nazi-cum-apartheid-style system of governance in Malaysia. They are using BTN (Biro Tatanegara) and the education system (biased history and literature) to carry out this plan.

Since Dr Mahathir Mahathir's premiership, which started in the 1980s, there has been systematic and deliberate 'ethnic cleansing' of the public service which has seen the former efficient multiethnic workforce gradually replaced by a lot of mediocre Malays.

Previously recruitment was based on merit but after Mahathir, any Malay was preferable to the better able non-Malay. This has resulted in a massive drop in standards in all fields and emigration of the best brains from the country.

While this might have benefitted a few hundred thousand Malays, who got the jobs they were not fit for, the biggest losers are the millions of Malays who get very poor quality service in all areas (e.g. health, education, transportation, etc.)
