Hi this is Patrick Teoh. Did you see the photo of Muhyiddin Yassin crying today? I saw one in The Star this morning. Very emotional shot. In full living color. Our Deputy Prime Minister who is reputed to be a grump who never smiles, with a hanky to his nose and eyes tearing. Quite drama one la. Of course whether the tears were of the reptilian variety or otherwise was not clearly stated la. Muhyiddin cried after handing out a check to former Johor state assemblyman Muntaha Kailan who is a stroke victim and a long-time friend of his.

According to the story in The Star a group of former elected representatives who are chronically ill received financial aid from the current batch of wakil rakyat who teed off in an effort to ease their burden.

Over 100 politicians, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, spent their Sunday morning taking part in the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Charity Golf (TSMCG)-Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club tournament at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Personally, I find it in rather bad taste to have all those chaps who are all either dying, chronically ill or paralysed sit there while the YB’s and VIP’s go strolling on the golf course enjoying themselves in ways the other group obviously can’t. And then having to suffer the indignity of being hand-outs at the end of it. I would have thought that if the government really cared about these people something more long-term would have been set in place to take care of needful ex-civil servants who deserve help. Don’t you? But of course that would not look as good in the newspapers la.

And another thing ah. Why do our leaders so love to cry in public? Make us look like a nation of pansies la. Remember the old general who cried when some people accused him of screwing up the Commonwealth Games? Cried on national TV and all was forgiven. Then the most famous cryer, Mahathir cried like a baby during an Umno general assembly. And we know how much was forgiven after that don’t we? And now our Deputy Prime Minister weeps like a baby. Wonder what he’s after?

Arrested for own safety

Don't worry. It's for your own safety.

Remember that time when our Malaysian police arrested MP Teresa Kok and a newspaper reporter and gave the reason for her arrest as ensuring her safety? The then Minister of Home Affairs, Syed Hamid Albar said of the reporter's arrest that it was......"for her own good as police had received information that her life was under threat". And remember how we protested and ridiculed the police for their action? Well, it would appear that our boys in blue set such a good example that even the Singaporean police force is following their lead. Arresting people for their own safety. And being kiasu Singaporeans they have gone one better I think. They arrested someone for taking photos of the floods in Singapore! Read this.......

It's going to be a high voltage mix of music, hilarious commentary and fantastic autobiography that celebrates her 30th career anniversary and 50th birthday. Yes, she is turning 50 and she is going to raise the roof and tell the truth. (Somebody commented that the monument looks like a rocket. Yes it does. But because it is a Malaysian rocket its engines have been stolen.)

According to the Deputy Minister of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing this monument is to record and display the nation's history and the success stories of past leaders. You decide if it was RM21million well-spent.

Thunder, Lightning and Slogans

This time we will make it. Just work harder. Tighten your belts. You hear my slogans?

It's a rainy afternoon. Thunder. Lightning. Dark, ominous clouds. And I am sitting in front of my computer. My Tweetdeck tells me that I am over some limit and can't be used for a while. And so I played around with the webcam and came up with a rant. Okay la so this tech-challenged geriatric just covered up the cam and used the audio. Which isn't very good but at least I have a sound track that includes howling winds and thunder. Kind of appropriate actually for what I am ranting about.

When I read the headline in The Star today I couldn't help feeling that there was a Niamah!!! moment in there. Judge for yourself....

Najib calls on Malaysian companies to be globally competitive

Words of great wisdom from the prime minister? Well....at first it was quite wise la. Then when I read further I realised that it was just political tokkok again la. Najib was lauding the achievements of a ship-building company which he said "had made 'waves' in the international arena on their own without depending on big contracts from the Government."

According to The Star story, "The Prime Minister stressed on the importance of building one's capabilities to be globally competitive as the country strived towards developed status."

PHWAAAAAAAAAAR!!! Damn good, right?

Then he said, "Success cannot be attained if we continue to rely on quota or privileges from the Government."

HUH???

Then what about the NEP the NEM? And what about Perkasa and all the other flers calling for continuance of quotas and special privileges? Oh, that one different issit?
