And the award goes to.......

The Istana Budaya, our multi-million Ringgit national theatre. I wonder how many world class artistes it has given birth to?

My apologies for not updating this blog as regularly as I would like. Making a living is one of the main reasons for this lapse in regularity. Actually, why am I having to explain this ah? I do because I care about you all lor. You are kind enough to come visit and share your thoughts sometimes. So I guess I have a certain responsibility to keep up this source of entertainment for you.  I received this comment to niamah.com today...

Niamah on another round of hibernation again?

When you wake up, Najib could be returned to power already.
Please do your national duty, please.

Okay, so now it is MY national duty to update Niamah!!! so that...actually so that what ah? Aiyoh!

Anyway, naemine. Today's update is not about the Budget. It is not about anything earth-shattering la. I just want to announce an award la.

And the award for Politician Most Unclear of The Concept goes to...

Abdul Ghani Othman, Menteri Besar of Johor for announcing to the world that Johor needs bigger theatre to breed world-class artistes.

When are we ever going to learn that big buildings don't breed anything except cobwebs and wastage of public money. Artistes are not bred by buildings but by tradition, nurturing culture and the education system. Our current education system has little or no emphasis on the arts. And so suddenly you  build a theatre and Kaboom! you're going to breed a generation of world class performing artists. How?

Update:  Someone sent me this suggestion on Twitter.  If we follow the Johor Menteri Besar's logic we should build a bigger and better Parliament House. Then the building will give birth to world-class politicians. That's one project I wouldn't mind my tax money being spent on.

NIAMAH!!!

Patrick, do you know the creature which has big head but no brain inside?

Which doesnt explain why we have a white elephant palace bigger than Buckingham, the Largest airport in the world..... and more baggage lost than heathrow... et al. Lets just muse the UMNO building. In fact, I would say the reverse is true. The new parliament should be downsized with glass wall... maybe then they would actually work for us.

Dear Patrick,

You should know by now that statement was an opening for a construction contract la.

The justification is made. Now, the implementation.

But then, we normally stop one the building is open.

Johor has a population of more than 3 million people. It's existing "theater" can fit about 200 people. The MB said the state need a bigger venue so arts can flourish. Like that also cannot ka? What the fuck is wrong with u la Patrick? Go check with your fellow artistes in Johor la. Even the pro-oppositioms ones. Check with them, how this Ghani Othman has been suppotive of their efforts such as the Johor Arts Festival. Just because the guy is BN you just want to hantam ya. Dont be such an immature oldman can or not?

You guys are wasting your time..

Voting or supporting PAS will actually cause issues.. PAS wants a theoratic Islamist state.. and if we the people give it to PAS to do it.. hudud.. we will indirectly give away the Judiciary, Legislative, and even the executive to PAS and their Ulamas to decide on everything. Are you guys out of your mind? Hudud will involve both muslim and NON muslim

Countries that produce "world-class" anything have freedom of speech, expression, religion, and free market economy; they do not have censorship boards and religious police or affirmative policies: they applaud, honour and reward quality work without regard for race or religion.
We don't need another ugly mammoth underutilised white elephant building please! We need to change our whole ruling government! Otherwise, dream on.

Can you tell Johor MB Ghani to utilise the white elephant called Persada JB for cultural shows?

No wonder JCorp is deeply in debt.

So typical of all these pro-BN bloggers like Bigcat, Bigdog or big whatever lah.
Typing without thinking.
Obvious that "building a new" project is only for self interest like 100-storey tower etc.
We actually have a lot of overhang in the country, in terms of residential, commercial, industrial space.
Why we are behind other countries is because we are NOT EFFICIENT!
Not Fully Utilising What We Have!
BN OUT!
And Hudud isn't even a real issue. There will never be enough 2/3 majority to pass it as law since BN don't even support it.

Dear Patrick,
Actually ah, let me tell you a story lah. Malaysia is the land of the white elephants lo.

This specie can survive very well only in Malaysia ma due to the ability of inept civil servants and profiteering politicians to provide sustenance for this particular breed of animal.

Somemore hor, the climate and terrain of our beloved country provide the exact environment for white elephants to flourish lor!

Malaysia is one of the only places where you can spot white elephants freely and easily wor. (I heard Zimbabwe also got but I cannot confirm it yet!)

In Thailand this specie extinct already lo. Rest of the world also you know.Relentlessly hunted down by those pesky anti-corruption hunters...sigh....

Thank God Malaysia can provide safe haven for white elephants man..otherwise no more ah, then how? How to show your future generations what white elephants look like??

Think, Patrick..think. Then ah, u got nothing to write about lor, How? Hehehehe...

Our Federal Government debt has increased rapidly from RM242 billion in 2004 to RM363 billion in 2009 and RM456 billion in 2011. That represents a marked 88.4% increase in debt over the past 7 years.

It is also an increase of 25.6% or nearly RM100 billion over 2 years. The increase in debt has increased the pressure on reigning in our budget deficit as our annual debt service commitments have increased to RM20.5 billion next year from only half the amount 5 years ago in 2007.While our federal government debt to GDP ratio is still at a moderate 53.8%, a far cry from Greece’s 117%, we are not far from Spain’s 64% or Ireland’s 67%, both of whom are facing economic turbulence of their own.

How does the the govt/Bank Negara calculate rise in inflation. Lets do some simple mathematics here" Last montth when I went to the market in Ipoh. Choi Sam veg was rm1.00 for a small bundle, today for the same bundle its rm1.50. So % up 50%. Cucumber which use to cost rm1.00 a packet was rm1.50 now, Also 50% up. A bowl of mee soup which use to cost rm2.80 now cost 3.50. Papayas use to cost 1.50 a kilo now rm2.00. So my friends the average inflation rate has risen by at least 60 to 70 %.The 5% up the govt and bank negara tells us is mind boggling & how do they you calculate? No wonder Moo is the Education Minister!

Ok, granted that Johor does require a bigger theatre for whatever reason, but please don't use excuses like "bigger theatre breeds world-class artistes" la??? Only way Malaysians can become world-class in any arts or professions is to leave your tanah Melayu and do it in a free and efficient country la! Niamah!

need big theatre to accommodate their big ego?

I like your blog, because you have the guts to say things which others only dream about.

Pat,
Love yr writing. Very entertaining.

Patrick,
U go ask that Suzy Yap who with her husband organised the Johor Arts Festival for so many years. Now, she is a pro-opposition lady. Ask her whether she agrees that Johor should have a proper theatre. Ask her who has been supportive of her efforts. U all who don't know shit about Johor arts n heritage scene better shut the fuck up. Go ahead Patrick, next Johor Arts festival come down here n have a look yourself. They r having it in a fucking tent for goodness sake. That's the fucking wrong with u all Pakatan fuckass, everything u all want to politicise.

patrickteoh said...

Anonymous 4:14PM, what the fuck is wrong with you? When have I or anyone taken credit off people like Suzy Yap and her husband for doing the great work they do? But the fact still remains that buildings do NOT create artistes. For that matter, neither do arts festivals. They might bring in tourists or entertain the locals for a couple of nights. Then it is back to the national school system which does NOT encourage the ARTS.
So what are you trying to fucking say?
Politicise? You're the ignorant fuck-wit who is politicising this.

So, no need to build big stadium la, because we never produce enough world class athletes. No need to build big university la, because we never produce enough einsteins. No need to have big hospitals la, because we don't have enough world class doctors. Hey Patrick, u r not in your beloved Singapore la. This is Malaysia, no need to be kiasu, n everything need to be world class.

Anonymous said...

Ok Patrick, I admit I'm out of line. This is your blog n I shouldn't use profanity here. I was too pissed off with some of the comments here. Sorry. All I'm asking is for u to give Suzy a call n ask her - will a proper theatre be good for the Johor arts scene? I suggested u call her because she is pro-opposition like u too n she knows the Johor Arts scene. I never accused u of taking credit of her works, ok. Up to u to believe - the Johor MB is actually a decent guy. That one also u can check with Suzy.

patrickteoh said...

Dear Anonymous 4:57PM I completely understand what you are saying. I do not doubt Suzy's intentions and good works. Neither am I unaware of the good work that the MB does. I believe a good theatre will help staging of the arts. However, a theatre building will never be able to produce artistes on its own. It is merely the stage on which artistes perform after years of education, nurturing and support which our system does not provide. So the theatre is like a factory that does not have raw materials to feed its machines.

yah pat !..fuck the stupid idiot 4.14 !!!!!

ask him to eat shit ..

Anonymous said...

It means there's a huge project for his crony la.

Anonymous said...

Im agree with Patrick, building a world-class stadium does not gurrantee u can get world-class footballer same as the theatre .Its all down and starts from the school system where children at young age being expose and educate about arts jus like a football academy across europe .

To BigCat,

Anony"mouse@rat" 4.57,

What is the point of having big universities if our interior primary&secondary school far far away to pensiangan, sook, only to name a few doesn't even have table & chair for the youngster to study. Their school building also only counting time to collapse? what is the point of having mega-big hospitals when no doctor in there to treat our orang kampung? what is the point of having a super-big stadium when we ended up only being "jaguh kampung"? Perfection start from the grass-roots-prove me wrong! NNNNN-IIIII-AAAAA-MMMMM-AAAAA-HHHHHH@N-I-A-M-A-H@NIAMAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
