What I can't take with me I give away la.
Hello! Now you are making me all confused la. I distinctly remember the kerajaan (government) telling us that we Malaysians must get rid of the subsidy mentality. Subsidies are bad. Subsidies cost the government and the taxpayers money that otherwise can be spent on Pembangunan (development). Subsidies make people reliant on handouts rather than teaching them sustainable independence. Bla...bla...bla... Remember? They told us that when they raised the price of petrol When they raised the price of sugar. When they raised the price of ... whatever la.
But unless I have been hallucinating Najib and his boys of late have been subsidising all sorts of stuff. RM200 for buying smartphones, discounts for things from grocery to insurance and healthcare. Handouts just for you (if you qualify) being there. This is not subsidy ah? Then what is it? My friend told me that the government is not paying for it but the vendors. Phone companies, doctors, insurance firms and all. They all luuuurve Malaysia and Najib so they all contribute to the 'transformation' lor. You believe ah?
Doctor: Normally I charge RM60 for consultation. But since you have this 1Malaysia discount card I only charge you RM30. Why? I luuurve Malaysia and the prime minister is a genius. By the way, so sorry. Consultation is RM30 only but the medicines...price gone up already. So antibiotics, panadol, cough syrup...medical chit....total is RM120. Inflation, you know. Thank you.
Well, I guess it is good to know early in the year how my tax money is being spent helping out Malaysians in need. Which brings up another question. Does anyone, young or old, who can afford an iPhone 5 deserve the RM200 rebate? Ok, ok...I know it's a silly question for a Malaysian to ask. Just like the fler I know who recently bought an apartment costing RM1.9million. But he got the usual discount of 5%. Or was it 7%. Why? Because he can.
But being the first few days of the new year I am being nice here. All this doling out of yours and my money is good la. It made Najib very happy.
