Retro Party for a good cause

An old colleague and friend went through a bad patch recently. Which really is putting it very mildly. His diabetes caused him to have one of his legs amputated. While in hospital his flat in Old Klang Rd. caught fire. His mother died in the fire. Without insurance he lost everything including, almost, his will to go on.

A bunch of us, his friends and ex-colleagues are getting together and organising a fund-raiser for him. It's going to be a Retro 'disco' Night. Playing the music that he loves. Re-living the days of Blue Moon, Betel Nut, The Tin Mine. And roping in, hopefully, some stand-up comedy and 'live' music courtesy of Errol D'Cruz. Deejays for the night include some legendary names of those days. Spike Yong. Charles B., Robert Mah and Alfred Low.

Date: Sunday, 21 April
Time: 5PM until late
Venue: Elinor's Restaurant & Bar, Merchant Square (same row as PKR Hq.)
Directions: Drive towards the Damansara toll. Take the left exit just before the toll and you should see it.

NO COVER CHARGE. You pay for food and drinks at normal venue prices. You can also make donations if you choose.

Come and have some fun. Listen to the good old sounds of the good old days. And help out a nice guy who deserves it.

Be scared? Be very scared?

One of the questions I most often get asked is this. Eh, Patrick you write all this stuff in your Niamah!!! blog and Facebook all. You not scared they arrest you ah? Or make trouble for you ah?" And my answer always was, "Hiyah! They don't bother with me one la. To them I am small fry only. Let the baarger tokkok la after all the fler only preaching to the converted what. Then we can use him to show off osso. Tell the world we have plenty of freedom of expression in Malaysia ma."

Of late, when I think about it I might have been wrong all this time. Sure I am not in jail. Sure I am still free to blog and write in my Facebook page. But...

For someone who used to voice 90% of all the commercials on radio and television I now would be surprised if I recorded more than 2 commercial voice-overs in a year!

The last time I was offered a role in a local Malay movie's been so long I've forgotten when.

The last time I was offered anything to do on local television there were still dinosaurs roaming the earth I think. Well, okay my poor command of Bahasa Malaysia may also be a cause la.

I used to travel the world with the then Tourism Development Corporation of Malaysia on their international sales missions. I acted as the official master-of-ceremonies at all the events. I represented the team as spokesman on radio and television programmes featuring our cultural and fashion presentations.

The last time I was offered the job of hosting a government or government-linked event was in the previous century.

So, when I thought about it...maybe they did do something to me and I was just too dumb to realise it until now.

So now I earn far less money than I used to. And it could all have been due to what I write or tokkok about on the Internet.

Abuthten! I thought about it a bit longer and said, "So what la? All I know now is I don't want to continue living like this anymore." Right?

Tokking kok...tokkok king...errr...Minister of Information, Malaysia

Sigh. It is so sad to see written 'proof' that Rais Yatim is not a very intelligent human being. His offer of 10 minutes air-time to each political party on RTM to present their pre-recorded manifestos in the lead up to Election 2013 proves that, unlike humans, Rais talks through his arse. In English or Bahasa or whatever "mode" he prefers to operate in. Apparently, Rais' offer was to prove that the BN government was as fair and democratic as any. \

Nah! Who says we don't give air-time to opposition parties. We give but they don't want only. And we are fair ma. ALL political parties get only 10 minutes. And that includes BN. (of course we don't tell them that BN also gets all the rest of the 50 minutes in every hour la)

And to further prove that he is quite moronic he stipulates that the offer is for a pre-recorded presentation. Opposition parties, in Rais' mind, may not be too smart either but they are smart enough to remember what Mahathir said a long time ago about 911 being a clever piece of editing and post-production work of fiction. If it can be done to 911 scale it would be a cinch to edit whatever Nik Aziz, Lim Guan Eng, Lim Kit Siang or Karpal Singh says in that 10 minutes, right? We are not stupid la.

Oh wait, wait, wait. Rais said that all political parties would be given 10 minutes’ airtime each on RTM to present their pre-recorded manifestos in the lead up to Election 2013.

10 minutes to present a manifesto??? How can? Wait......BN sure can one. Because why? Because their manifesto will take less than 5 minutes to present. Nothing to say what. Gerrit?

Happy end to a happy day

Here's a piece to help you end International Day of Happiness with a good  laugh.

Rosmah, in her autobiography said that as the PM's wife she was compelled to accept expensive jewellery as gifts from foreign governments out of courtesy because it was not nice to reject.

“And when I’m given the gifts, I wear them. Why would you want to just keep them in a safe when the items were given sincerely, are beautiful and can be used? It’s a waste if they’re just kept in a safety deposit box,” she wrote.

Woo Hoo!!! Good save, Rosmah!  Hahahaha...

But then hor you were given these gifts as the wife of the Malaysian prime minister, right? So the gifts rightfully belong to Malaysia and not to you personally. No ah? Were you planning to return them to the Kerajaan when you move out of Putrajaya?

Don't worry be happy

Where got? I was buka puasa-ing at a function in KL.

While driving home this morning I heard on the radio that today is International Day of Happiness. So be happy everybody!  Laugh. Have a wonderful day.

And while browsing the news today I also found that there is much to laugh at and laugh about today. For instance, there is almost conclusive proof that Dr. Mahathir is not senile. He is in fact in full control of his mental capacities and has a good sense of humor.

When launching Rosmah Mansor's 180-paged biography (I would have thought she'd be able to fill more) Mahathir suggested that the biography be distributed to schools as a guide for future generations “100 or 200 years from now”. A guide for future generations??? Yup the old doctor said that it was " make sure that our chilren are able to read from the other side." The news portal did not elaborate on what he exactly meant by "reading from the other side." Told you. The old man is funny.

On that same page there is another story full of laughs. When questioned at the book launch about her alledged involvement in the Altantuya murder Rosmah said that she was not involved as “I was at the Tabung Haji building from evening till midnight. There were many eyewitnesses there”.

So there you go. She cannot be involved because she was at a function in KL. Errrr...but...oh...never mind la. We take your word for it. You were not there so you were not involved. Ok. Hahahahaha...sorry I couldn't help it.

And her 180-paged biography is selling for RM150!!! That's RM1.20 per page. I wonder if it will topple Kee Thuan Chye from the best-seller list soon?

I have only met former cabinet minister, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil once. At the launch of a TV movie. I was surprised at how large a woman she is. Yes, she is big. Anyway, that isn't the funny bit. The laughs are from the reports of her testimony at the ongoing legal suit against the PKR's Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin and Mohd Rafizi.

Shahrizat said that the NFCorp, helmed by her husband had bought a RM534,622 Mercedes-Benz in 2009 as a company car. And the reason for buying such an expensive luxury car? Please hold on to your chair because you might fall off laughing...she said that NFCorp was a “big enterprise” that was visited by important foreign guests. And I suppose the Merc would suitably impress those foreign flers. She also implied that although the Merc costs more than RM500,000 there were 4 directors in the company but they only bought 1 Merc. Okay ma. Not greedy osso.

And then how come her husband and sons bought a condominium in Singapore using NFC money? Her  explanation to a layman like me sounds hilariously funny. She alledgedly said that since NFC money was lying around idle, due to some reason beyond their control, the directors thought it was a good idea to invest the money to make some quick returns and that the condo was in their personal names because NFC being a start-up company could not get loans.

She is suing those 2 flers for RM100million. Wah! If she wins she can buy quite a number of condominiums man. And to think that I almost ate at a Meatworks restaurant once . Brrrrrr......

In his state-of-the-nation address prime minister Najib said, “The people of Malaysia must choose between ... a government that will continue proven policies, or the other side who speak with a forked
tongue, who take people’s trust lightly”.  Eh? Funny right? Whose side is he on? Hahahahahaha...

The rest of the laughs International Day of Happiness today is provided by our prime minister. He announced, among other things, that crime rates are down... the seven National Key Result Areas (NKRAs) in the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) have succeeded in addressing the needs of the people... in fact almost everything is good la. And after telling us not to whine so much about giving up subsidies on sugar, petrol, diesel etc. and not to be addicted to dependence on subsidies he announced that the BR1M cash handouts would be a yearly affair from now. To buffer the effects of rising costs of living wor.

I am not sure I can take so much happiness in one day la.

Video entertainment

I am sure that you have all heard about if not actually seen the latest 'sex' video which shows a man alleged to be Anwar Ibrahim in a room with another man and ... well you know the drill la. I saw a photo grab of that video on the Internet a couple of days ago. Ho-Hum!

I found this video much more entertaining. See what you think.

The future is in cheaper cars!!!

The statement most likely to make you shake your head in disbelief...

"Undilah Pakatan Rakyat untuk kereta lebih murah"

What the fuck!!!

I saw this at the back of a Pakatan Rakyat Video entitled "Kenapa kereta mahal sangat di Malaysia?" Ok so car prices are very high with all the taxes etc imposed. Ok so one of things you promise to do if and when you take over the government is to look into that and perhaps make car prices a bit more realistic.

But don't ask us to vote you "untuk kereta lebih murah"!!! Fuck man don't we have bigger issues to deal with?

Really ah?

Here is the statement most likely to make you say, "NO SHIT, SHERLOCK!!!"

The old man was referring to his observation that at one time the Malays were angered by Chinese control of the economy. So doc, now the Malays are in control of the economy. Then how? It might have lost something in translation but these days I really cannot understand or believe what comes out of Mahathir's mouth and supposedly brilliant brain.

In another article Mahathir was reported to have said that while the ethnic majority enjoys a special position under the Constitution the same law guarantees the minorities the right to self-identity through the freedom to practice their respective religion, language and mother-tongue education. What???!!! So while some get discounts on houses, scholarships, places in public universities, top positions in civil service we get to speak our own language and pray in our own temples and churches???  But wait, this is the good bit. Mahathir said that  it would not be possible to abolish Malay privileges without doing away with the rights of the minorities.

Think about this carefully, folks. If being Malaysians and having equal rights and privileges in everything means speaking the same language and going to the same schools I am all for it.

Mahathir and anybody who talks about this topic of rights always bring up the example of Indonesia. Mahathir said that in Indonesia the Chinese don't all themselves Indonesian Chinese, they call themselves Indonesians and speak Indonesians. Sure doc. But in Indonesia there are also no Bumiputras. No Bumi privileges. Everybody is Indonesian and enjoy the same rights and privileges. No?

What the fuck!!!

When I read this report in The Malaysian Insider this morning I got quite upset. Wouldn't you?

KUANTAN, March 15 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will not compromise and will shut down the controversial Lynas rare earth plant in Gebeng, Pahang if it comes into power, said Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh today to allay fears that it will do otherwise.
This follows media reports quoting Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as saying last week that the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant (LAMP) can continue operating if it is found to be safe.
“Pakatan Rakyat’s manifesto is crystal clear. We shall shut down Lynas once Pakatan Rakyat gets to form the federal government,” Fuziah (picture)said in a statement here.
As one of the earliest opponents of the plant, Fuziah stressed that it must not be allowed to operate neither in Gebeng nor anywhere else in Malaysia.
“Even if there is a one per cent chance that the Lynas plant is proven safe, it still shouldn’t be there in Gebeng,” the PKR vice-president said.
Observers noted Anwar risks being accused of inconsistency in his stance on the plant following a report in Melbourne-based daily The Age last week where he pledged to back Australian miner Lynas if it is proven safe by a new public inquiry.
Anwar was quoted as saying that he would fast-track the inquiry, but until then the Lynas plant would quickly be shut down.
“I am not prepared to risk the safety of people in and around Kuantan,” he told The Age.
The statement appears to conflict with a remark he made during a Himpunan Hijau rally in Kuantan last year. He assured his audience then that Pakatan would dismantle the plant.
Wong Tack, a prominent activist in the anti-Lynas movement, also dismissed this week suggestions that Anwar was being inconsistent with his position on the Lynas plant.
Wong said he agreed with the opposition leader’s opinion that the Australian mining giant, which he described as coming into Malaysia through the “back door”, should be allowed to operate here should it observe the stringent safety requirements.
“If Lynas went out back through the back door and comes back in properly through the front door, complying with our procedures, then we would let you come,” he said.
But Wong suggested that Lynas did not meet with the safety standards set by the Malaysian government and that its operating licence was acquired irregularly.

So is Anwar and Pakatan for or against the Lynas plant? Front door. Back door. WTF!!! We thought Lynas was a danger to Malaysians and must never be allowed to operate here. Has it now become a matter of approvals and points of entry?

The statement most likely to make you shake your head. In pity. In disbelief. In shock.

"If the opposition wins and administer Selangor, the position of the Malays
and Bumiputras will be shunted aside. Because of this, we must act quickly
to convince the people of Selangor to topple the opposition government and
replace it with BN which is led by Umno. Our sacrifices will be in vain if Selangor cannot be saved," - Dr. Mahathir

Here we go again!

I promise you it will be English...errr...I mean Malay...errr...I mean...errr...have I had my nap today?

We used to be educated in English but Bahasa Malaysia was a compulsory pass (a credit actually) in order to receive a full Form 5 certificate. Then some morons decided that it was best to dismantle the system in the name of national pride and what not. Bahasa Kebangsaan/Melayu/Malaysia became the language of education. And English became not even a compulsory pass subject.

And now...Muhyiddin Yassin announces that English will become a compulsory pass subject as early as 2016. Wow! Really? Why?

The minister in charge of education said it was because "...many people, including parents, are supportive of the proposal."

Wah!!! Good la, Muhyiddin. Thank you for opening our eyes. But what is the main reason why the Education Ministry is having this change of heart about English? Muhyiddin said,

"Since English is widely used internationally, we have little choice but to encourage our children to be proficient."

Phwaaar!!! No shit, Sherlock!!!
