To Smile or not to smile

Diorang semua kerja kuat ma. Bab tu diorang berjaya la.

The statement most likely to bring a slight smile or snarl to your face. Or maybe a mixture of both...

Claiming that his sons are successful in business or politics only because of their own hard work, Mahathir said,

"If they succeed in business or politics, it is due to their own effort. And all this took place after I resigned as prime minister."

Najib and Lee. Humans first. Prime Ministers second. Right?

When very important people like prime ministers of countries meet do they talk about normal 'stuff' like us ordinary folks. I wonder. Seeing a photo of our Najib Razak and Singapore's Lee Hsien Loong in TMI this morning made me think that they must. After all they are human beings first before becoming prime ministers, right? So I am sure that Lee would have seen Najib's embarrassing performance as Psy's warm-up act in Penang recently or Najib's attempt at drumming up support in the TV commercial where he hid behind doors and took drums from little girls.
So, do you think that Lee would have asked, "Eh, Jib how did you feel that morning in Han Yang...I mean Han Chiang High School there?"

You think?

Gua tolong lu. Lu tolong gua.

Nah ambik. Now be grateful ya?

When Najib Razak made his famous "I help you, you help me" speech in Kuching we all thought that it was him who came up with that formula. Now it would appear that he didn't as it is a cultural thing. Well, according to Dr. Mahathir at least. The former Prime Minister said that it is part of Malay culture to help those who help them. He also warned that the country would face instability if this was not followed.

What nonsense la. It is not a Malay cultural thing. It is just good upbringing ma. The rule applies to Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, Bidayu and every Malaysian who is honest, intelligent and loyal. The only thing is that Malaysians be they Malay, Chinese, Indian or any other ethnicity must decide for themselves how much, if any, they have been helped by the person/s asking them for help in the last 50+ years. Right or not? If they have been helped then they will show their support for the persons/parties that helped them. Of course.

But got help or not? Getting hand-outs during election time is help meh? It is quite insulting, handouts. Handouts are handed out to beggars. Malaysians are not beggars.

Maximum faux pas

By now I am sure that almost every Malaysian with an Internet connection is familiar with the events that took place at the BN-organised PSY concert in Penang. The event saw the first time that Prime Minister Najib Razak was publicly embarassed by Malaysians. Well, actually I would say that he definitely shot himself in the foot. More than a few times. 3 times to be exact when he asked the crowd gathered to watch the Gangnam Style Korean pop star, if they were ready for BN and got a loud NO!!!

Today, The Penang State BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow, said not all the people at the PSY concert in Penang said "NO!" to Najib when he asked if they were ready for BN.

"We have video records showing a large segment of the audience had yelled ‘Yes’ when the PM asked that question several times", he claimed.

Errr...yes I am sure not all the people there said no. And the point you're trying to make is??? And if you have the video proving your point why don't you post it up on YouTube to counter all that's being viralled against your boss? Simple isn't it? Post it up la then people can decide the truth for themselves. True or not?

Greetings

Have just got home from a fortnight's visit to Penang where I performed with the cast of Philadelphia, here I come. Thank you to all the Penang folks who came to support Malaysian theatre and am so glad that most of you enjoyed the show.

It's been a tiring start to the new year, 2013. Phew!!! So I am going to take a rest before coming back full-time on Facebook. To all my friends on Facebook, thank you for your support without which I would not have survived some really trying times.

And to all the Patrick Teoh 'haters' who came by on Facebook and vocalised their thoughts, outrage, anger and calls for homicide, thank you too.

You have given me a full hard look at my country. It is an eye-opening experience. Thank you. And yes, I will defend to the death your right to speak out just as I am sure some of you will do the same for me or anyone else. And that is why, other than the offending post, nothing has been shut down. Nothing has been deleted. Nothing has been covered up.
